Pardon the Intrusion
by tsukuhara@hotmail.com

We shouldn't blame politicians. We put them there, we are to blame.

What has this Congress accomplished? Have they secured the border? Have they began our war on energy dependance?

And why do we brag about our system? It's fucking pointless. It's a joke.

Hurricane, did you catch my thread on the Millenials?

Considering you fall in that category. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm sure your the exception to your generation.

I hear this crop of new voting Millenials are actually optimistic about the future, and the government.

Now there isn't anything wrong with being optimistic when there is hope.

But here we live in a world that is getting less stable, less fat and happy, and these people are looking forward to getting things done in an ineffectual government?

Where do they get off?

The Republic is dead, represenstive government is senile and ineffective. This is the way to get things done.

It is clear Democracy in it's current format is useless, there is only one alternative. A more effective version perhaps? In the hands of the right man or woman?

No doubt what Hillary has in mind.

That being said though, represenative government may indeed be weak and ineffectual, but before Unebug's vision of empire comes to pass, they will have to take my AK-47 from my cold, dead hands.

I have no use for tyrants, Republican, Democratic, or otherwise.

Well if that is your opinion of concentrated power, then by all means you are quite content with the Tyranny of many.

And you have no problem with them squeezing the American people as they spend money left and right and up their nose.

Just because our forefathers were smart, and what they built worked does not mean we could improve or go through brief periods of re-formatting or an outright dictatorship to temporarily streamline policy and clean out the fat cats.

I have more faith in that system than the present one. If the Dictator is that bad, it's easier to take care of one man than 100 senators and 435(help me on that number) Reps, plus gazillion state reps and so forth.

Rome seemed to be very similar to Anglo civil/military traditions. Such as concentration of power, and being weary of having a large standing army over the Rubicon or anywhere near the capitol. They didn't have a problem with the military, as long as they were in the provinces and not in Rome itself.

In first century B.C, it was Julius Ceasar who was by all accounts a somewhat pro-establishment liberal who was labeled a Tyrant by the envious and suspicious Republicans.

Was he a tyrant? Technically and he engaged in some Tyrannical behavior, but compared to the alternatives he seemed to be a pretty nice guy if you believe the movies.

To me, if you have the right man, it could work.

If you don't have faith in one man to be good and honorable, then you should be happy with Nancy Pelosi and graciously hand over your scrotum.

The old lady already has my scrotum.

To be totally serious here though, where are you going to find that man?

Hitler was the most villified person in the 20th Century, but what he accomplished in pre-war Germany was a remarkable achievemnet. Had it not been for World War Two, he would have no doubt gone down as the 20th Century's greatest leader.

Our own system was founded on the concept that it was never wise to entrust too much power to one man.

Maybe democracy is indeed flawed and has run it's course, but history often points out that the alternatives to democracy are generally worse.

Like the ancient Children of Israel, we are tired of our own social responsibilities, and want a king to lead us. We prefer to give up our options for nothing but our own lassitude. And we will one day pay the price for it.

I agree, dictatorship of the many as bad as dictatorship by the few, or the one.

The problem lies in finding the right man if you wish to dispense with democracy. I might even decide to follow such a man. A doubtful proposition, given my independent nature, but not one I could rule out for the common good.

I think safegarding our liberties has honestly become too much for WE, THE PEOPLE.

Where do we find such a man or woman though?

Unless Persephone wishes to engineer a government coup.

I'd follow her anywhere, just as long as she kept my testicles out of her tiara.
