Michelle Obama
by SC McB

Barack may become more revered than Kennedy and more effective than Clinton with a Republican congress. He is a uniter and not a divider. The author strikes almost as low as Ann Coulter and resorts to any foul trick to be mustered. This is absolutely race baiting, low politics.

Lee Atwater begged Christ to forgive him for his Willy Horten capmpaign. These wife bashing shenanegans are disguisting and pathetic. You should be ashamed.

Go Barack. Go Hillary. Don't let stupidity get you down.

Seriously!

I've had altogether enough of Christopher Hitchens' overlarge ego.

Re: Michelle Obama
by whatfur

I am not so sure the Mr. Hitchens is not on to something. I just heard a re-broadcast of the speech she gave last Friday. She sounded like the anti-Reagan. I mean, I could not even recognize the country she was describing. Everything about working hard and failing because someone "moved the bar". Casting the American dream like it was a nightmare. Blame-placing, excuse making, responsibility shirking...

A real downer. Obama may need to send her packing too.

Re: Michelle Obama

whatfur: I've heard her standard campaign speech many times and let me assure you:

you plain ole weren't listening or were listening with a blue collar ear or something . . . listening just like Hitch thinks . . .

Re: Michelle Obama

"listening with a blue collar ear"? What kind of elitist bullshit is that?

whatfur is reporting a fairly common reaction to what the Obamas are saying. For example, in "America's Unhappiest Millionaire: Michelle Obama's gospel of misery," Yval Levin at NRO links to Michelle Obama's Durhan, NC, speech described as:

characteristic of her peculiar recent performances on the stump. It is an hour-long talk to supporters who just want something to cheer about, and who get some opportunities at the outset, but then find themselves treated to a profoundly and relentlessly negative vision of American life.

“Barack may become more revered than Kennedy and more effective than Clinton with a Republican congress. He is a uniter and not a divider.”

Wow, that’s not saying much. While one of the most popular president’s Kennedy was one of our worst ever. He bungled the Vietnam War, bungled the Bay of Pigs invasion, and almost bungled the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was far more interested in his penis than he was in being the president, which brings us to someone that has many things in common with him. We are talking about Slick Willie Clinton of course, who happens to be among the top 3 worst presidents in the history of the United States. This is a man who allowed the Chinese to steal military secrets, either dealt with outside problems half assed or ignored them completely, failed to give the go ahead to assassinate Bin Laden and Saddam on numerous occasions, and slashed the military budget (includes the intelligence departments) every year he was in office, which left us vulnerable to attack on 9/11. So you named off 2 of the top 3 worst presidents (Carter being the other one in this triumvirate of incompetence) in United States history. That’s just frightening. If half the country feels that he’s evil then how can he be a uniter?

If Obama wins and he leaves a legacy anywhere near as bad as this then we the mistakes made by Bush will look pedestrian in comparison.

“The author strikes almost as low as Ann Coulter and resorts to any foul trick to be mustered. This is absolutely race baiting, low politics.”

This is a common liberal tactic. If you don’t like what the conservative is saying then you insult their intelligence and if possible, you compare them to an example of the lunatic fringe. Never forget that your side has their own lunatic fringe and that it reaches much deeper and wider into your base than ours does.

“Lee Atwater begged Christ to forgive him for his Willy Horten capmpaign. These wife bashing shenanegans are disguisting and pathetic. You should be ashamed. “

Atwater knew he was dying and like most human beings he was worried for his soul and wanted to do everything he could to make sure he would make it to heaven. In times like that you ask forgiveness for everything even if it wasn’t wrong.

Granting furlough to William Horton, who was a convicted robber, rapist, and murderer was a monumental mistake and it was important that the American people were aware of the support of the program from Michael Dukakis. Dukakis was in fact an extremely unqualified candidate for the presidency and it was important that everyone be made aware of it. As a result Reagan thoroughly and justifiably trounced him in the general election. In the 2008 general election there are plenty of things that people will need to be well aware of concerning Obama or Hillary. Fortunately for McCain he doesn’t have much to worry about.

“Go Barack. Go Hillary. Don't let stupidity get you down.”

Too late considering both are liberal Democrats.

Re: Michelle Obama

She sounded like a typical liberal to me. I remember the repeated use of the phrase, “12 long years” when referring to the combined Reagan and Bush Sr. presidencies when Clinton was first running for office. In the end we received 1 of the top 3 worst presidents (the other 2 being Kennedy and Carter) in United States history. Michelle Obama sounds very much like those fools did then.

Blame placing, excuse making, and responsibility shirking are major parts of the liberal guidebook. They will tolerate anything and stand for nothing. They accept whatever you want to do, but only if you never mention that what they’re doing is wrong. Take care of them and pay their way, but if you expect anything out of them then they’re calling you a fascist right-winger.

I seriously hope that Obama doesn’t send her packing, as I believe that it is extremely important for the American public to see exactly who and what they represent. I’m amazed at the level of support he has received so far. He has the thinnest resume of any presidential candidate throughout the history of the United States and then he has all this weirdness as well. It’s just crazy.

Good to hear from you. I still read Hitch's stuff, but hang out at this idiotarian forum a lot less than I used to. Reading posts like yours, demonstrating some actual intelligence and integrity, is a bad influence; it'll just cause me to spend more time here.

Hello Varian:-)

Good to hear from you as well. I left after The Fray was reformatted. I just didn’t care for it and I still miss the old one. It was much easier to see if someone had responded to you.

I see that the place is still has an overabundance of liberals and so far the few conservatives I’ve found on here are crazy and over the top.

True conservatives like us are still around. Btw, what do you think the outcome will be in the upcoming election? Us usual it is the liberals that spend far more time fretting and therefore they are the ones that are always first in line to vote. As a consequence the final results of any election are in doubt until much closer to the end. From experience I know that few Republicans and conservatives bother answering polls. We’re just too busy working, paying our bills, and raising our families to worry about that.

Thank you for your complements. I enjoy your well thought out, considered, and intelligent posts as well. Be wary, degsme is lurking around somewhere. I wonder whatever happened to Hyperthetical?

Eh, we’re either the fascists or the eaters depending on which label makes it easier for them to belittle, insult, demean, insult, and dismiss us. After all, if they can’t beat us then they insult our intelligence right?

Cassandra:

I liked the old format better, too.

I don't care much about who's lurking around here, especially since I don't bother to read many posts, anyway. I'm certainly not going to try to figure which oldies are here under new names. If I recall who Hyperthetical was, he may have gotten mad and left because of the way he or someone else was being treated. Neolefty is still around, but seems to lack enthusiasm and puts up mostly (mercifully) short, half-hearted posts, but with the same lack of facts and logic.

I don't have much of an idea of who will win the election, and no strong preference either because McCain sounds so much like a liberal most of the time. If he's elected, the largely spineless Republicans in Congress will be even more worthless than usual. At other times, when I think of the damage that Obama could do to national security or with judicial appointments (damage that would outlast his presidency), I start to root for McCain--then McCain says something and I just get depressed again.

Don't be a stranger.

Re: Michelle Obama
by bananaboat

Yeah Hyperthetical could always be counted on to get mad and throw a fit. I don’t miss Neolefty either, but it’s good to know that he’s not as rabid as he used to be.

McCain isn’t a perfect candidate and I’m not crazy about some of his positions, but he’s infinitely better than the alternatives. This election reminds me of the 2000 and 2004 elections where I had to pick the lesser of two evils both times. I knew Bush wasn’t very good, but he was so much better than Gore or Kerry would have been.

Currently I have liberal fools that believe that I would never vote for a woman or a minority and then when they find out that I’m female and Chinese they tell me I’m cozying up to the whites. One fool even accused me of not wanting Obama to win because I cant stand the idea of a “person of color” succeeding where I haven’t. If they knew who I am they would feel incredibly foolish. They’re still crazy.

I’m picking McCain and I’ll deal with any mistakes he makes.

I'll be around :-)
