Like the movie, this review misses the point
by dlb

One does not go to an action movie, especially an action movie based on a comic book super hero, to see anything but action. All dialogue, plot development, character development, morality, romance & etc exists in these films for just two purposes - to explain why these guy are running from those guys and to justfiy blowing stuff up in spectacular ways.

By getting bogged down in personalities, processes, techno-geek ooh-ahh and other assorted trivialities, Iron Man fails as an action flick. Worse, it fails to redeem itself with truly magnificent, never-been-seen-before pyrotechnics or action sequences.

In short, everything that Slate's reviewer praises in Iron Man should have been cast into the director's junk pile, as it only serves to weigh down the finished product. Wait for this one to come to TV. Interrupted by commercial breaks, the long, tiresome sequences in which suits and characters are built will be much more digestible.

I disagree. It's a beautiful world isn't it, where you can go to action movies purely to see stuff get blown up, and I can go to them to see characters and plots and humorous dialogue and also see stuff get blown up?

I like it better when they make movies like this.

To each his own.

I agree, I think you expect too little, even from superhero movies.
