Skirt Comments
by Texwiz

Good lord, woman, get a grip on your oversensitiveness (oversensitivity?). If you normally don't wear a hat, and then you wear one, people will comment on it. Nothing negative whatsoever is being implied.

I work in a business casual office, but sometimes, just because I feel like it, I wear a tie. The typical comment is, "So, you got a job interview this afternoon?" with the joking implication that I am disloyal to the company and looking to jump ship. But it's just that, a joke.

In any event, the correct response is, "No special reason, I just wanted to dress nicely today." or, if you had a sense of humor, you could say, "Oh, no big deal, I've just got a job interview later."

How about:

(Confiding whisper) "I have a bit of a yeast infection. The doctor says I shouldn't wear pants for a while."

That should get them to back off!

I tried that, but they gave me the funniest looks. Almost as funny as when they saw me in a skirt.

I also work in a business casual office. Sometimes, just because, I wear a skirt suit or bust out the closed-toe high heels. If I get comments, I say that I need to do laundry and my stodgy clothes are all I have left that are clean. If it is a female co-worker then I tell her I may be dressed up but I'm wearing casual underwear.

That's a good answer, and has the advantage of being truthful. Because, I must admit, all my underwear are casual.

I like that answer as well! It's very cuddly and conveys, "I might look different today, but we can still be friends."

I agree about the oversensitivity! Plus if she wears the occasional sundress or whatever, most people will only comment on it once or twice. After they've seen her dressed in similar styles again, it'll be old news and no more comments! It's only a problem because SHE is making it one.
