Another media manufactured issue+

Like the wright issue the "elitism" charge is mostly media manufactured. First some politician makes a dumb charge (the guy likes escargot!) The media runs with it, basically push-polling the idea ("would you be more or less likely to vote for someone who thinks you're an idiot?") Finally the accused is forced into a no-win situation, either he denounces the charges and those who buy into them ("see he DOES think you're stupid!") or he ignores them ("out of touch, aloof").

Orwell not withstanding, most of those people charged with "elitism" are no different than you and I, they just happen to inform themselves and refuse to take a backseat to the obviously ill-informed simply because that's what the "conventional wisdom" says (there are WMD in Iraq!).

That, more than any limousine, latte or wine and cheese course is what makes an elitist. They are defined by the fact that they know better, and say so, and it is no excuse that they actually do.

I guess the only way to avoid the charge of elitism is to embrace stupidity. Hey, it works for the GOP!

I have been waiting for people to figure out how badly they have been screwed by the Bush administration. I'm still waiting. The flat part of the learning curve seems to stretch out for many miles in front of them

Nah, don't worry your not an elitist, you don't understand the abstract nearly enough to be one. However, you are en example of why socialism fails. As Orwell said, people like you are disgusting. You are so insecure about your beliefs, that all you can do is insult other people. You could write a post about how great your ideas are, and why I should vote for Obama, instead you wrote a post calling everybody except your own party names. What, you didn't like Obama calling people from small towns xenophobic, gun toting bible thumpers? Well something must be wrong with you. If your going to blame the media for him coming across like a snob, then you also have to blame the media for making him a star. The media embraced his "change and hope with no plan" politics for months, the only reason he had a chance against Hillary is because the media allowed the fantasy that he was perfect to go on and on, even as proof that he was just another politician surfaced everywhere. (Rezko, Table Tennis, NAFTA, Iraq, Lying about hearing Wright... ect ect) Until finally they were getting mocked so much by the public that the media finally decided they had to actually cover the negative side of him. At any rate, I don't think we have any great choices this year, but thanks for illustrating what Orwell was getting at, you make it crystal clear. Forget about the miner, you probably can barely stand to talk to the guy taking your order and McDonalds.

tonto, I don't like Bush, that doesn't mean that I like Obama, in fact the two seem to be identical, they both promised hope and change, they both put their foot in their mouth's daily, and they both think the constitution is just a peice of paper.

Yes, and that's both accurate and a truly frightening observation. The only candidate who offers the appearance of any competence at all is Hillary. Could Canada please annex us and are their leaders any better than ours?

ME an elitist? Don't make me laugh. What the fuck do you know about me? I AM Hillary's demographic, the difference is I can see through her pandering. If I was going to buy into it I would have voted for George Bush eight years ago.

Stuff your fucking condescension up your ass. Nothing pisses me off more than some asshole on the internet reffering to ME as elitist. You don't know me asswipe. I've spent more time hanging out with McDonalds workers socially then your fat-ass has spent ordering big-macs.

So who's the elitist now jerk-off? Just because I want something better for myself and my country, and I've bothered to inform myself on the issues I'm an elitist? I live paycheck to paycheck motherfucker, and believe me I've spent enough time with the lower class white voters that make up Hillary's base to know that they - my friends, my neighbors, the people *I* grew up with, and that I love, that I know better than anyone else - are NOT informed voters.

I'm about as far from Orwell's pointy headed intellectuals as one can get, and it is from this perspective that I am denouncing the assholes that foster this false and manufactured "elitist" outrage.

Are all Obama's poor African American supporters "elitists" his young broke college students, and working poor urbanites. This is an issue manufactured by the press and Hillary supporters, and a favorite tactic of the Republicans.

If you criticize pandering they call you elitist, it doesn't matter if you make 12,000 a year - like I do - you're an elitist, and if you point out the manipulation they say you're calling regular people stupid. It's not the money that makes you an elitist, it's the striving for knowledge. Don't presume to know anything beyond what you are "allowed" to believe is the truth otherwise you're going against "conventional wisdom" and are thus "elitist" - and who makes this determination? Wealthy politicians like Hillary Clinton and a bunch of well paid media talking heads who push poll the issue to get fuckwads like yourself to believe it.

NOW I'm insulting people. Specifically you, you fucking moron asshole.
