the basic message of socialism, that you can take something that belongs to another to benefit yourself is resisted by those who imagine things being taken from them. When I hear someone talking about distribution of income, I know that person has no intention of giving up anything. I know no rich person will ever be made to give up anything. I know that person is thinking how I am supposed to give up what I have. It means that if I save enough money to buy a boat, some bureacrat will decide I don't really "need" it and take it. I realize that there will always be injustice. I would rather have the injustice of capitalism, which affords me freedom, that the greater injustice of socialism, which would rob me.
Historically, capitalism has done more for people than socialism. it is the former that lifted living standards, so that the poor person in a western country is rich by the standards of the rest of the world. We all know this. What will socialism do for me, make the government pay for me to take a cruise? Force someone out of their house, so I can live in it? Capitalism enables me to pay for my own cruise and house.
at least, this is the viewpoint of the white so called poor. blacks may be socialist, but that is only because they imagine something will be taken from whites. they don't imagine they will lose anything. if they did, they would not be socialists.
