Disney response to China billboard

Oh, how they have lost their way. Not only has Disney committed public gaffs with titilating photography, the lame excuses from Gary Foster, Disney's spokesman for its consumer-products division appear similar to misrepresentations of 'sniper fire'. I've lived in Beijing for nearly nine years and I've observed outdoor, print and broadcast advertising as part of my business. The pre-teen puppeteer in bra and panties is more than unusual. It is a flagrant contradiction to Chinese culture of almost sever modesty. There may be the occasional risque advertisement that sneaks past the censors, but they are few and far between. I doubt this Disney disaster would have been permitted if the pictured child was Asian and not Western.
My wife is Chinese and a very attractive, sexy if you will, woman in her early thirties. She has a stunning figure and enjoys wearning somewhat revealing evening attire when we attend social events. Her sensibilities about appropriate fashion are reflected in her description of some outfits 'showing too much". I'm sure she will agree that our 'pre-teen puppeteer' qualifies as "showing too much". Therefore, Mr. Foster's comments stating that, "In fact, in Europe, they have similar type of taste, if you will. Here in China that's not unusual at all." Hogwash! In a country where you cannot buy a copy of Playboy on the newstand Mr. Foster's response is the commercial equivalent of 'avoiding sniper fire'. Just apologize and move on. With that, we could respect you in the morning.
