Being a Scientologist isn't much different than being a Republican or Democrat. All three entities are composed of members that blindly follow the "PartyLine" in hope of receiving some favor like lower taxes for the wealthy or food stamps for the unwealthy or insider information for the super wealthy. I have no problem with Cruise and Travolta using "Church connections" to advance their individual wealth as it is no different than the "Old Boy" frat networks from college days. So what if Scientology is a rip off of Elmer Gantry. I think the "Free Market Supply Siders" are just jealous!
