The article "So you want to be a scientologist", should be re-researched and re-titled: "So, who would want to be a scientologist?" Once you identify the personality types who feel Scientology helps make their lives infinitely better, more fulfilling, and clearer, then you might realize why Scientology has existed as long as it has. You might get an understanding why so many people pay so much of their hard earned money to, essentially, a highly secretive, elitist, and freakishly controlling society. There was the Nazi Party in 1930's Germany, EST in the 60's and 70s, the Rev. Jimmy Jones and Jones Town in the early 80's, and the Branch Davidians in the 90's, just to name a few. There has always been, especially in this country, an over abundance of poor lost souls, wayward flocks of vulnerable sheep, open-hearted and deep-pocketed but dim-witted loners and losers, desperately insearch of the opportunity to be victimized and taken advantage of. There are so many of these types of people that the arrogant and enormously wealthy Church of Scientology can afford to be choosey. And who is their Prophet? A writer of science fiction literature. A writer who based the creation of a laboratory religion on an obscure essay, the thesis of which was political propaganda, behavior modification, and racism, and written for the Nazi Party in the early 1930's. And who is their god? An alien from outter space. No wonder prospective new Scientology members are required to sign a contract denouncing psychiatry. If any one of them ever stopped for a reality check, they would never give Scientology another check.
