Oh oh...he is winning Guam as we type.

It's weird to have primaries in areas that have no vote in the general election.

I'm with you on that. I like it but it is strange. The funny part is all eye's are on the outcome of this little entity. All this attention for 8 deligate halved for a grand total of 4.

Places like Guam and Puerto Rico have a vote in the primaries because the Democratic party is a private organization that determines the rules for selecting its candidate. There are people in Guam who are members of the Democratic party, so the party feels those members should have a voice in selecting its leaders. The key words are PRIVATE ORGANIZATION. Dismissing Guam's right to participate in the primary process because they can't vote in the general election is like dismissing the rights of Washington D.C residents who are a member of the NRA from choosing that organizations leaders (key to understanding this analogy is that, at present, it is illegal to own most firearms in D.C.).

Except that no one on this string dismisses their right sosjtb. I actually like it as I said, even if it is a quirky and interesting part of our election process.

Perhaps I overreacted to the description of it as "weird" which I assumed to be a tacit criticism. I get very frustrated when people who don't understand the process speak with so much certainty about it. For example, I can't tell you how many times I've read people talking about how the "constitutional right" of Florida's and Michigan's voters have been violated by "their vote not being counted." I don't necessarily agree with the rules the DNC has created to select its nominee, but people need to understand that, as a private organization, it has the sole authority to determine those rules.

I think Guam should have a vote in the national election. I was just commenting on how strange it is to be allowed to vote in the Primary but not the general, but Guam and Puerto Rico should have a vote in the national election.

Voters in Florida and Michigan (most likely Clinton states) are not happy that their votes haven't been counted. Howard Dean has been a disaster in this area and the more the press pays attention to that issue the more Americans will put media pressure on superdelegates to side with Hillary. Obama can't win in November anyway. He's the McGovern of 2008.
Re: I have news for this timothy noah

According to McGovern, one of the reasons he lost was that the other candidates in the democratic primary turned on him and launched a series of vicious attacks after he was clearly going to be the nominee. So, for your analogy to hold true, it would be the democratic party that will torpedo him.

Or at least Obama will have to convince himself that is the reason when speaking after the fact. That's closer to the actual parallel. It's hard to believe that McGovern would have won in any situation against the Nixon juggernaut.
Re: I have news for this timothy noah

McGovern lost because he was out of touch with the majority of Americans, especially those over thirty. Obama is in the same situation. And after this past week even those under thirty have to wonder just who is this man who has tried to position himself as a new politician but in fact (re: Reverand Wright) is no different than any other politician. In fact he might be more duplicitous.

pwoxby,

I'm glad to see you have such a finely developed sense of humor :).

49.9 to 50.01 a landslide? :)

That is funny :).
