The Bronx is Burning
by arcane

While congenitally loathe to become enslaved to an 8-hour mini series, the premise of TBIB sounded great and I'm an Oliver Platt fan, so, what the Heck, there I was, expectantly tuned in to ESPN at 10pm Monday.

Wait, what's this? Not the promised drama but an interminable home-run-hitting contest at the end of which -- whenever that might be -- the promised program for grownups would appear. And what about next Monday? And the Monday after that?

Click! Farewell TBIB, you'll not be seen in this household. If I'd been an advertiser expecting that my commercial would be seen by its intended audience at a civilized hour, I'd have been on my iPhone ito my ad agency in two shakes cancelling my buy. Get real ESPN. If you're going to play in the drama big leagues you've got to do a better job of catering to your audience's expectations.

Personally I thought Daniel Sunjata was fan-tastic as Reggie Jackson. He absolutely nails the character and is the main reason to watch this mini-series. Simply awesome. I was a teen back then and I remember the craziness of the time, and the swing of Regginald Martinez Jackson! haha :-) Mr. Sunjata has it down pat. I can't wait for next tuesday.
Oh, give it a chance

I didn't get to watch the first episode, thanks to a cranky DVR timer. But the two I've seen were great-- close your eyes and you'll realize Oliver Platt has George's voice and personality nailed down tight. I'm not a big Yankees fan, but the summer of 77 and Reggie Jackson are two things that New Yorkers of the day still ponder with awe and fascination.

I missed the first episode but tuned in last night for the the second -- It is done in a bit of a 1970's style of production -- meaning that you can have a today cinmetography of a 70's story -- this looks like it was produced in the 70's.

I am not a Yankee's fan today, but was enthralled with them back in the days of The Mick. (Girls didn't play sports as such in my day, so I was taken with the dreamy hunk, ha:-)

The reason I am watching this series is that the actor portraying Thurman Munson is a fellow from our area, so will stay until the end, good mini series or not.....
