todays poem

what was she saying? I have no idea. just a bunch of mumbo jumbo... I think the poetess needs to learn to express herself a little bit more realistically... The poem did absolutely nothing for me. We should write poetry that is plain and very readible. It should be understandable, if not what is the sence of writing? Amos Beck Georgia Poetess

hi Amos,

this week's poem wasn't immediately understood, but required a little work. if you read others' critiques of it you'll get a better idea of its meaning. lots of poems fray posters like to put a little work into a poem that pays off big and they've already done the work.

i see you signed your post Georgia poetess. please consider posting a poem for us to read or stay around for Thursday's Other People's Poetry offering. (OPP)

welcome to poems fray!

sorry it's taken so long to get back to you.. lots of health problems with mom... 89 years old... fell and broke her hip.. here's one of mine any way... Blessings Amos..

Ballad of Sean Brody

~*~

Sean Brody, fine young man,

that you’d ever meet.

wore a black fedora

to beat the Georgia heat.

His papa was Irish,

His mom was black as coal.

picked a flat top guitar,

puts rhythm in your soul.

Sean’s mind is like a trap,

a gifted child was he.

learned to play the music

sitting on grandpa’s knee.

A buck knife he could throw,

and split a hair into;

a big strong man he grew,

with one brown eye, one blue.

Jealous were the town men

over his looks and grace.

Made a devilish plan

to put him in his place.

Singing Jesus praises,

Satan tried to grab his soul…

hangs high in the valley,

watching dead flowers grow.

Today's poem? Amos, it looks like you're responding to "My Mother's Mind," which was posted here in June, 2007. The rest of us are discussing the April 15, 2008 poem, "The Line between Heaven and Earth" which was written not by a "she," but by Michael McGriff.

Looks like Amos picked up on the only thread she entered.

Thanks for the poem, Amos. Hope your mom is comfortable and well.

Thank you so much. I still need to find myself around the Fray and get a grip on the workings of the blog. I would love to post poems on the Art and Life link of Slate, How would I do that? I have a book ready to publish but it looks like it will be next year b4 that happens. Mom is doing well. She is a fighter. Please stop in to WorldofPoets.com, it is a new site built just for learning poetry skills and extending poetry writing talents... No other site like it on the web. Guaranteed. Blessings to all.
