Old proverb: Talk is cheap.
by ghost

Why talk to Hamas? We know what they want, and they know what we want. There will be talks when we or they are willing to make some concessions. Do you think we should make concessions toward their stance of the annihilation of Israel, or should we demand that they make concessions toward our stance of peace with Israel? I guess it depends on how much you like Israel.

100% agree with you. But you won't get many to concur with you here, that's for sure.

I mean, how can you negotiate with someone when their opening remarks are "Israel needs to be wiped off the map."? I mean, where do you really go from there?

Nowhere, just like Carter did. Talking to those thugs just made them seem legit. Regardless of whether the majority of Palestinians were dumb enough to vote these people in or not (was that really a fair election BTW?), these people are terrorists and thugs.

And you are so right - we'll talk to them when they are ready to make concessions. Until then, the point of talking is what?
