This woman was probably ok by 18, but the kids I am sure have never had any immunizations! Their once source of exposure also, the dad (ewww Grampa), probably did not adequately supply colds, flus etc to keep their immune systems challenged and strong. You need a good cold or flu sometimes to strengthen your immune system. Plus probably will have allergies of many kinds due to lack of exposure to variety, animals, plants etc. All will have to continue to be isolated and immunized properly for several months..I am surprised they allowed for a reunion so soon.

I feel just the opposite. In such an abnormal circumstance such as this one, to hell with the immunizations for the time being. What are the chances - honestly - of a few hours of human contact leading to meningitis or measles, mumps or rubella? After all of the insanity and abuse Elisabeth and the children endured, the "health" vaccines could stand to wait a bit.

If there is a God, I hope He would agree that if these kids managed to survive for years and years in a sunless basement with only the basics for sustenance, then they could also survive without their needles for another 24 hours or so.

If you're worried about immunizations, then you must be from the US. Most other countries don't force innocent children to have toxic chemicals injected from the moment they're born. Do you think that's freedom? This was a horrible situation for this family to be in; don't even think of making it worse by adding pharmaceuticals to the mix. I am thankful they are above ground now.

This is probably not the forum, but how in world does a woman not know her daughter and grandchildren are living in her house--basement or not? I have 3 boys and they make noise! I think there's more to this story.

I am with you! How could someone father 7 children, give birth, have 3 of those children living upstairs with you and not question where the heck these babies are coming from?!?!?!! The mother had to have known, but was scared of the father/grandfather!! I have 5 kids and there is no way to keep them quiet, EVER!! There definitely is more to this story. The grandmother should be locked in a dugeon for allowing her perverted son to do this to her own grandchild. I would die for my kids but I know that if my son, as much as i love him, could even suggest this I would report him and have nothing else to do with him. As the grandmother to the child that has been birthing her fathers grandbabies she is just as demented for allowing this to go on. And where is the biological mother to the daughter who has been turned into a sex slave/mother of many for this pervert? Where is the biological mother of the daughter who has been used as a sex slave and why didn't she notice her daughter was not around? There's no excuse in this world for abuse of this nature.

What is worse is he will probably get away with it because he gets labeled incompetent to stand trial...or is this only a ridiculous notion in the US? And therefore are not looking at the facts. Apparently, the father had them in a basement in a bldg (I'm not certain, but another poster read that it was a community bldg, not a private house) and that it was soundproofed and bolted.

Also, any woman that is married to a man who is that crazy was probably "broken" herself. How many millions of women get abused or watch their children get abused each day, each year. It's not about making excuses for these people, but if you want an explanation- look at how many people are weak and don't stand up for themselves in abusive situations. At people who tell themselves that they deserve it, etc.. I think it's stupid, too, but I'm not in the situation so I can't really judge.

All any of us can say is "well I would never do that!" Well there's lots of things that we would never put up with that our neighbors do. He also lied and manipulated the woman in regards to the children they were raising- forging notes saying that she was leaving them for the parents to raise. You can all say you would know better, but judge not until you've walked in this woman's shoes. Not only have you all not done that, you don't even know what the shoes LOOK like.

The man forced the daughter to write letters saying she had joined a cult. He probably tortured them if they made noise so they learned to be quiet--which is probably why the children speak to each other in grunts and growls, less likely for someone to hear it, and if they do, they can be convinced its just some animal outside.

As for the immunizations, why don't we worry about all of their (especially the children's) mental health. The older kids had been in there so long, they may never be able to have a normal life. I don't think they care about not getting their MMRs.

Unfortunately, I do know those shoes and that is why I am so emotional.

Oh yes, how important this article is. Hmmm, let me do some personal research 'cause I believe we need to shed some light on just how important Vitamin D deficiencies and Allergies to mold in a DUNGEON creates after 24 YEARS. I'm sure they all humans trapped there pondered this during the times they wished they were DEAD! Oh ugh, i can't even imagine and just to regard anything other than what they suffered is irrelevant. to the "immunization" bloggers defense, the article was concerning physical health. but I agree that mental health would override those concerns in this case.

i believe the "basement" was in another building,not their home. in fact, there was talk of finding accompliances that possibly helped build/installed those stong soundproof doors of the building. the daughter was believed to be moved away, so for all we know, the wife could have very well thought she was taking in orphans that needed a home, not knowing they were "relatives". I hope she didn't know and that her & daughter can mend relationship. I pray that they all get the healing and help they need.
