Both the poor and the elderly are looking for government handouts. They overwhelmingly vote Democrat for the socialist programs. They want goodies, paid for by someone else. Yes there are numbers to back it up, all over the place. This is why democracies always fail, because the majority of voters will always vote to stick it to the minority, until there is a revolt and a dictatorship comes in to protect the powerful against the mob.
