Extreme Likelihood of US Attack on Iran
by Usama2

The shifting of generals indicates to me an increased likelihood of American military action against Iran.

The Kyle Lieberman Act rendering the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist group provides legal cover for the DOD.

Joints Chiefs of Staff have provided ample military justifications.

It is all but signed and dotted. It will likely take place in and around American election season (October-December 2008). Iranian meteorological conditions are likely the only factor obstructing or hindering this attack.

UPDATE: a 2nd aircraft carrier group entered the waters off of Iran: the Persian AMERICAN Gulf.

A recent Counterpunch article analyzes and compares American warmongering with another historic imperious power of Europe:

Yeah...thanks. Counterpunch and all of it's laudatory contributions to unbiased reporting. And this isn't the first time two carriers have been in the Gulf. Considering the current carrier battle group is due to rotate soon...it's only natural a second carrier battle group is on the way to replace them.

I still advise against making that bet.

Yah we've heard this one before...in 2006, in 2007, and now again. Never happened, probably won't now. Outside chance. The Bush administration seems to realize it could not handle war with Iran as it can barely get by in Iraq and Afghanistan now. If all of Iran's war mongering to date (bombs and rockets sent into Iraq, IED's sent into Afghanistan by the account of Nato, the kidnapping of British sailors in international waters, the speedboats purposely getting close to US warships in the not too advanced aftermath of the USS Cole bombing by a speedboat, etc etc) has not provoked a response, it's very doubtful anything will happen now.

I guess this constant baseless drumbeat of Bush being about to attack Iran is supposed to galvanize more support against him. Shouldn't be believed now, the people claiming this have been proved wrong several times already about an "imminent strike on Iran".

Its not WAR with Iran that is sought, its impunitive strikes on Iran establishing America's hegemony over Iran that is sought.

America doesn't want to destroy Iran's oil refineries which would cause prices to rocket. Nor does it want to mobilize the Iranian people in their zealous fervor. It wants to reenforce the Anglo American Axis World Order, which includes the international treaties and institutions. I have heard ritewingers say America has a right to subvert Iran with infiltrators and putschists because Iran is doing so in Iraq. Yet, Iran is NOT doing this to America. America is essentially the boundaries of Iraq belong to America.

In any case, if one reads the American diplomatic statements towards Iran, they call for Iran to surrender its sovereignty to America eventhough America has called for overthrowing Iran's elected government. In effect, America is already at war with Iran. The GOP Congress acted for the overthrow of Iran. By the standards of international relations preceding the UN, a nation trying to overthrow and topple another nation's government is effectively at war with that nation. The cause to overthrow a government is percieved as treason a/o sedition.
