misleading article

paying alimony is fiscally irresponsible? seems a bit harsh of the author to argue McCain's disabled ex wife should get a job and support herslf, no?

And whatever your feelings towards the costs associated with managed mutual funds, the American funds are a high quality and well managed group, one of the very largest in the country, so it is a very big stretch to call the investment "anything but conservative"

And the closer seems to be simply a political statement: inherited weath being the typical portrait of Republicanism? Does the author have any data on the frequency of inherited extreme wealth among republicans vs democrats? Or a reason to think the McCains have generated higher than average broker commissons (despite possibly never buying or selling individual stocks?

Truth should not be sacrificed to make an entertaining article, this one is a minor blot on Slate's reputation

and I am not a McCain supporter.

Couldn't agree more; the article is mostly guessing in the first place and the "fiscally irresponsible" line is just plain stupid.

Agree

Then there's this...

"The campaign cites privacy, but the omission smacks of McCain being defensive and of a willingness to let others take responsibility for crucial areas of his life."

as if letting his rich wife control money she inherited makes McCain irresponsible. Dime store.
