Bleeding Hearted Liberals

I'm standing in the grocery line with only a few items- cause I spent my money on gas, and there a older black gentlemen holding a newspaper with PA voting result as the headlines. He said, "Poor, Obama. Oh, I sure didn't want Hillary to get this one. In fact for the first time in my voting history, if she wins the nomination, I don't think I will vote in the general election." The cashier and a few others concurred. He went on to say, "before Obama got in it, I was definitely gonna vote for Hillary" but now I just one that boy to win."

I opted out of commenting and listen. I thought-. ...So now I understand the term - Bleeding Hearted Liberals. They don't think- they're not cerebral in their thinking. Just emotional - "He inspires me". This is not a personality or beauty contest. This is a serious election. And they don't get it! When Republican lost their favorites nominee in the primaries they all got on the band wagon and encircle the nominee of choice, McCain. Not because he "inspired them or gives good speeches, etc. Not so with the bleeding hearted liberals. If my nominee doesn't win - I'll take our marbles and go home and won't play. And guess who wins by default then - THE REPUBLICANS.

And to their credit, that is what they depended on. The bleeding hearted liberals to get all emotional and hand them the election. Democrats wake up! AND THINK!

Oh goody! It's the "let's make a generalization based on a sample size of one" game. Can I play too?

OK, how this: I'm a sample size of one. I think that the most important decision that a president can make is the decision to go to war. It's so important to me that I will give a lot of weight to judgment on this issue.

It happens that the two Democratic candidates have a track record on this issue. Hillary Clinton supported going to war with Iraq. Barack Obama opposed it. You can't slip a piece of paper in the gap between their other policy differences. So based on their judgment on war and peace, I'll go with Obama.

There. How well did I play the game?

Obama 08!

Politics--and therefore voting--is always emotional. It is rarely, if ever, a purely intellectual exercise. If it was Bill Clinton would have lost to demonstrably more experienced opponents and "W" would not have beaten either Gore or Kerry. Understanding that postulate, the question becomes who can inspire the right kind of emotion this fall? I do not know if Obama can beat McCain. I do believe that Hillary will never be elected. Too many people have developed an irrational hatred of her. Hypothetical polls fail to capture that dynamic. People are just not honest about it. In a small sample of democratic leaning voters who happen to be friends and acquaintences--at least half have privately stated they would never vote for Hillary, and would vote for an anti-choice septuagenarian first. Hillary supporters do not like to hear this--but it is simply true. The people who do not like Hillary, truly and fundamentally hate her--and nothing can convince them otherwise. This alters the general election game in a pretty basic way that clintonites do not, or cannot bring themselves to face. It will be interesting to see if Obama has essentially the same problem, people are often not honest about their qualms in voting for a black man named Obama.

Funny how the most illiterate comments (the phrase, by the way, is "bleeding-heart liberals") so often come from people who believe that those who differ from them are stupid. Or, as this commenter hilariously puts it, they "aren't cerebral in their thinking." No doubt they aren't arterial in their bleeding, either.

A good rule of thumb, I find, is to discount any comment that contains all caps or exclamation points. Comment sections all over the country are currently infested with the likes of WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! THEY ARE IDIOTS!!!! SHE CAN'T WIN!!!!! and HE'S A CON-MAN!!!!

It's going to be a relief when this election is over and these trolls go back in their caves.

Good idea. I also like to discount any posts from people who think you can only bleed from your arteries.

You're right, GW would not have beaten either G or K, had people been thinking instead of emoting.

He would have destroyed them.

And by the way, bleeding hearted liberals bleed "venally", not arterially.

hehehehehe

Regan vs Bush I, 1980.

Who was the inspiring candidate and who was the experienced party insider.

How soon we forget.
