Newsweek poll: white voter myth?
by KrustyKasbah

In the latest Newsweek poll, Senator Obama maintains an overall eight point lead over Senator Clinton in the their latest poll. Both Obama and Clinton have a three point lead over McCain. Obama leads Clinton 48% -36% as the one most likely to beat McCain in the GE.

An interesting number that hasn't been polled before. Amongst white voters McCain leads Clinton 52% - 42% and McCain leads Obama 52% - 38%. The four point difference lies within the undecided voters.

Much of the mantra from the CLinton supporters is that Obama cannot win the GE because he will not get the white vote. Based on this poll, Clinton also will not get the white vote. Those who would not vote for Obama because of race are in the republican camp anyway.

I believe that many of the "planted" white votes were against Hillary rather than for Obama. They Republicans we know for a fact in many cases registered and voted in the Dem primary to make sure HRC would not win and be the nominee against McCain in the fall. We all know this. They are going to go back to their roots in the fall elections anyway. Nobody has illusions that the democrat whites (especially undercover Republican whites voting for Obama) were all going to be loyal and stay? I hope we all aren't living in fantasy land.

NEWSFLASH: Recent polls confirm that the sky is, in fact, blue. ;)

Obama 08!

I completely agree with you. Hillary won't beat John McCain in the general. I am a democrat by the way.

Do you really think these polls mean much when it comes down to the real campaign?

This quandary of the democrats is more than a percentage in polls game.

As I remember it, Rush Limbaugh told republican voters to vote for Hillary and they did in large numbers in both Ohio and Texas. It turns out that it is against the law in Ohio to have done that. I saw interviews with republican voters who stated that they had specifically voted for Hillary because of Rush.

Obama won Colorado by a huge number. This is a red state and the number of votes for Obama exceeded the total of republican votes cast. What does that tell you?

I actually am not too worried about democratic chances in the general election. When people actually focus on what McCain stand for his numbers will be as low as Bush's are.

Let him try to defend his opposition to the GI Bill or the flip flop on Bush's tax cuts. He would like us to think he is more honest than Barak or Hillary, but his campaign is being run by unpaid lobbyists....

If I were guiding Moveon's ad campaign I'd have a simple ad showing the "Lincoln Bedroom" sign on the wall being replaced by the Corporate logo for one of the major lobbying firms.

And when the McCain
by dontbuyit

PACS start running the "God Dam America!" and the "I don't regret any of those bombs. I think we should have bombed more." ads....

What happens then?

Then it's up to the American people to use their common sense and not let fearmongering control them. But as we've seen from Bush being re-elected....that probably won't happen.

If you can make those Obama's words, that would be important.

Showing that those words represent Obama would be as ugly as saying that McCain is the father of an illegitimate baby or that Cindy was a drug addict....do Hagee's words represent McCain?

Is that where the compaigns should go?

Re: And when the McCain

If I were Obama I'd do an ad with all of the crap that Rove did to McCain in the 2000 primary and remind people of what they got when they listened to people like Karl Rove.

Re: And when the McCain

Yes, Barack Obama has to make negative campaigning a campaign issue. Especially since John McCain has nothing positive to campaign on. I do think that the voters will buy that.

Obama 08!

I think if they ran a bunch of ads about mud slinging and what it gets us, it would steal both Hillary's and McCain's only tactic.
