Like I mentioned before, Chris's logic is flawed. His logic sounds like the same logic that many are reporting that the
Clintons are using to sabotage Obama's campaign so they can win in 2012. It
simply won't happen. You don't surrender your position in hopes that your
opponents will lose and then you can pick up after the smoke clears. His strategy is a ridiculous one, to say the least. By giving up, you only strengthen your
enemy's position and end up in an uphill battle to regain your original
position.
Where do I get my logic? Try reading military strategy texts, for one. And
you might also read about the battle of the Chosin (Changjin) Reservoir in North Korea during the Korean War,
where the U.S. Army (and the Marines, among other U.N. forces) were caught in a
trap and retreated. The army general was quoted later when asked if the Marines
had actually retreated, "Retreat? Hell, we're attacking in a different
direction!"
That battle and ensuing retreat ended up being the turning point of the war
for the Chinese army who eventually won the war on behalf of North Korea. We
ended up losing the war, and never regained the strategic positions we retreated from. Additionally, that event ended up being the only blemish in the U.S Marine
Corps proud history. The unit lost its colors and, I believe, regained them
only after many hard-fought battles in other wars and squirmishes. The battle cry "Death Before Dishonor" never rang more true than after this saga in Marine Corps history.
Chris's strategy might work if Obama was playing some sort of board game, like Risk or Chess, but he's living in the real world. I suggest you and Chris do the same.
