Crappy Exit Polls

Hmm.

Well-designed and executed exit polls which diverge grossly from election results are usually taken, not as a sign of lousy exit polling, but evidence of election-rigging.

In case you hadn't noticed, there's a lot of smoke in the air about election-rigging these days. Here's a whiff from the 2004 Presidential election:

It goes without saying that if an election is going to be rigged, look for it to benefit the candidate who is closer to corporate interests. That's certainly the case here.

Here's the deal. An outlier exit poll, which disagrees with other exit polls, can happen. But when they all cluster at a point far removed from the reported election results, raise your BS filter. Something is wrong, and journalists ought to be pretty interested in that.
