Thanks for the post. The article is interesting and informative. The idea of scientific cost benefit analysis is one that most don't even understand.

Environmentalists don’t get it. Economic slowdowns kill people in the fringes, poor people. Carbon offsets, Windfall Profit taxes and etc. harm economic growth. Slowdowns in first world economies lead to suffering in developing nations, and third world deaths.

Like an animal lives by sharpness of tooth or claw tooth, humans live by the sharpness of our minds. Those who hate humanity believe when you are in the ocean, you deserve to be shark food. That is why the Left is welcoming the Armageddon. Those who love people, care for the health, wealth and comfort of people, and try to prevent deaths by creating optimal environments for homo sapiens. Luddites want a pristine environment without people. A true humanist would be working to create, engineer and build environments optimal for people. Any idea that impedes the acquisition of financial capital harms humanity.

Well said, Ralph. I would add to that that humans are part of the planet's ecological structure, not separate from it as many of the enviro-nuts seem to believe. This, I believe, is a symptom of what you say about the left which seems to welcome the death of humanity. These are the people that think we've destroyed the environment by building cities. There is a strong philosophical argument for saying that cities are also part of the environment. Haven't birds adapted to city life? I've seen enough bird nests in K-Mart signs to get the idea that nature keeps finding ways to adapt to human influences.

Before the greenbloods embark on a lynching, let me remind everyone reading this that I do not, have not, and will not advocate mindless, wasteful, destructive behavior, environmental or otherwise. I believe that human ingenuity is a commodity that we have a responsibility to use. I think that we are to build and develop and modernize while doing our best to be good stewards of the world in which we live. However, it should be done via liberty and free market economies, not via the heavy hand of government.

My apologies Ford, I do tend to agree with the latter part of your post but you may not be old enough to remember when the "free market" was dumping toxic waste directly into streams and rivers. They can't give away homes in my hometown becuase they're wicking deadly toxins. Business had its chance and proved to be bottom line driven not people driven and that's why they have to be watched like spoiled children.
