Musings of a republican feminist
by kamom
+1/-1 Reply

Yes republican and feminist.

I remember growing up in the 60's and playing basketball - and having mothers of other players tell me I did not play in a lady like manner... and fighting to make sure my brothers had their turn at washing the dishes!

Fast forward to now, I have two teenage daughters- one who is a runner who amazes me at her strength and discipline as she competes at levels that are certainly not lady like. The other who's involved in ROTC and recently completed a competition with an all female team on the same course as the bigger stronger males- and they were awesome. Both who are good at math and science and don't dumb themselves down.

I'm probably against most of what Hillary stands for on just about every subject. And yet... when I hear the kids talk about Hillary Clinton and not wanting to vote for her because she's shrill or bitchy or a nagging mom, it makes me want to go burn a bra!

It’s time we were judged by the content of our character and not the pitch of our voice when we speak!

If I continue to hear the patronizing attacks against her based on the pitch of her voice or her appearance or her husband, I may just have to vote for her. Girls need to stick together sometimes.

Please.

You're smart. See the silly criticisms for what they are: a reflection of the inability of many people to articulate why they don't want Hillary as president.

To vote for her because "girls need to stick together" is as ridiculous and appalling as someone supporting Obama "to show we aren't against a man of color having silly ideas."

Irving Chang, you're a very weird and disgusting fellow.

I can't read any of your other commentary without thinking about your response above.

you lack a sense of humor.

Republican feminist--

You give me more confirmation of my theory that so much of Hillary's support comes from people who are simply anti-anti-Hillary.

LOL

Well, I voted in the dem primary and it was indeed hard to pick a candidate, especially since I was planning to vote for the one who would be most likely to lose if nominated. I chose Obama in the end, but if Hillary wins the nomination, I'm still happy, because Uhmurrica hates her. Yay.

My theory is that feminists would vote for any1 who hates the world and men

You have to admit, kamom, that voice of Hillary's, and the way she's played the gender card, sets women back a couple of decades. You want a real woman to respect in politics? Let's get a piece of Jeanne Fitzpatrick's DNA and recreate her in a test tube. Or get Margaret Thatcher over here and put her on someone's ticket. Now those are female politicians I can respect.

If being a contemplative (one "not of this world") and a woman makes me a feminist--well... I used to be a card-carrying Democrat; I can't vote for either candidate this time--but neither can I vote for the Republican candidate. None of them uphold Catholic social teaching, if you really are truthful about upholding it. So I'm writing in the candidate of my choice who will (ask me privately, if you must). I will do what I can.

Ah, to be in the world while not of the world... I agree that none of the candidates are even close to my ideal. I do have a moral responsibility, in my opinion, to engage in my civic responsibilities. I could write in the Pope, but that's not practical.

If Obama doesn't get the nomination, I'm voting for whomever the Libertarian candidate is. Because my state, California, will be a landslide for Hillary any way. Barf.

I am not a gir;am a guy and I have a daughter very much like yours. i agree with you one hundred per cent. but before you pull that lever for hillary think about real carefully. take alook at her the way you possiblly look at the idoits who at times tease or may say negative things about your daughters. I do!!! they often come from both sides; males and females; especially the females. some people run for office because they truly believe they can make a different. This lady has an ego beyond her husbands. If you look at her real hard and listen to her very carefully , you'll began to notice certain trait simular to our present president. Is this what you want.

The clown who answered your question!!!. give it a rest about Obama. We all know the whites won't vote for him because he is black, whether you will admit it or not. for as long as i can remember black people have gone to the poles and supported and voted for another white face, singing the samre old tunes ; hoping best will occure . the entire world knows amaerican has and probally will never turn the corner on race. you are to scraed of what the results would be. you would have to look in the mirror. Times are changing and will continue to change. the world dosen't look up to us anymore. third world countries are looking in other places for relief. the way we are looking for alternative for fuel. you can do one of two things change with times or eventually die with same old ideas. take a look at what young people are doing. many are working to get a black person voted into office. Some of you are saying , what do they know. apply think to the guys and girls fighting this war and see what they say. i am vietnam vet, was there fro 2 1/2 years at the age of 18. come home older beyounf my years.

Shroeder Baker

You are either an extreme joke or you are kidding......You live in your own little shell of a life hoping that someone different from your perception of a president will not be elected.

Attitudes like yours....no blacks or women as a president is unfortunately very common among the ignorant and illiterate of the U.S.

The alternative is McCain or McSAME as he should be called. Putting up with the mess we currently are having to be put through, kids dieing for nothing, spending us back to the stone age with billions of war costs., ....etc.etc..

But I don't have to details these items to a genius like you....YOU know all this and are willing to say "so what" in the quest to put some one in the whitehouse who better fits what you believe is the proper look.....Who cares what they say.

Good Luck

So it's ok to be shrill, bitchy, and a nag if you're a woman?

I don't think people who don't vote for McCain because they think he's got a temper or is way too angry are man-haters; that's their choice.

Personality counts for a lot, male or female. If your personality sucks or grates on people, it sucks reguardless of your sex.

There's nothing sexist about disliking a man for being a "brutal asshole" or a "flaming dickhead". I wouldn't want to work for one or hire one. Same goes for an "obnoxious bitch" or a "shrill nag".
