The recent decision on the cases decided by the Supreme Court is no great surpise and like every thing based on race it's sharpely divided according to your politcal or social viewpoint. Conservatives hail it as a decision for colorblindness and liberals lament the push for racial intergration via busing when the facts don't square up with reality, America in general and it's citizens in general practice defacto segregation towards each other so this decison just affrims the conservative idea that personal choice is driving racism not the result of legal laws passed by state and the fedreal government also let's not discount economic and poltical terrorism waged on African- Americans prior to Brown itself and continues on to this day which conservatives seem to ignore in their desire for some legal colorblind resolution.

As someone who was bused for 8 of his 12 years in school there was no intergration amongst the races outside of Football, Basketball and Track and maybe the creative arts in their schools. As an African- American what I saw was only 5-10 percent actually making an actually olive branch effort across racial lines. The only thing that busing taught me that whites could be devious in their dealings with African- Americans either through school adminstrations or white students acting like they were God's little angels and they weren't as bright and slick as they thought they were.

So I think the Civil Rights leaders believed too much in goodness of white americans when they should have never allowed our children to educated by our white enemies because White Americans believed in racial equality in theory not in practice and that has not changed in 53 years since that moment. This society will never accept African- Americans as it's fellow citizens so I see this desicion as a politcal one instead of the 9-0 Warren Court Brown desicion. African- Americans do not need to live, sleep, have sex or get along with the white population to live in this country. African- Americans need to be racial atheists when it comes to the white population and Justice John Roberts an the white posters phony "colorblind" mantra notwithstanding,

I think getting away from each other would ease the racial conflicts amongst black males and white teachers and give us as African- Americans a chance to develop our infrastructure in educating our children. There is a big world and we as Black Americans should embrace other cultures, educational ideas and those whites around the world who respect us as human beings and not problem citizens. White Americans are corrupt with priviledge and dealing with them will only give you mental and physical problems.

I was on those buses, too. The difference is, I was white and going from the neighborhood I lived in with my African American neighbors into school at what was probably the best school in the area. I don't know about olive branches. I do know that my best friend in grade school was Afro-American and I had friends from all ethnic groups. I lived, and still live in an ethnically diverse neighborhood. So do my parents. Most likely my son will, too. The difference is that now that neighborhood is not as poor as the one I grew up in and went on that bus from. I went up the economic ladder somewhat. Blacks and Whites and all people need each other. Treating each other as enemies is stupid. Using race as a dividing line between humans is stupid no matter who does it. Why do you so desperately want to hate?

I didn't create racism it was created and maintained by a populace that thought someone different was inferior and was cofied into science and politcal thought. The American Right and it's allies think that African- Americans are inferior and that's a fact. The modern racial cold war was started by William F. Buckley and Russell Kirk when they said it was okay for Southerners to 'maintain their way of life by any means' in the National Review after Brown came down the pike. I don't really understand. I think that basically if all were put on an equal educational footing and given what they needed in the way of medical care and help to achieve their full academic potential from a pretty even playing field, we would see a lot less racism and economic stratification and the country would benefit from better development of the potential of young people. I don't know that dating across racial lines wouldn't be more prevalent, but I don't think that dating is the measure of tolerance and equality. Social and economic movement is achieved through education, not dating generally.

Bigotry is not unique to American white people. It was bigotry that caused the slaughter in Rwanda. It was bigotry that allowed the Japanese to murder tens of thousands of Chinese and American, British and Australian POWs in World War II.

I do agree with one premise wholeheartedly though..... racism is a choice and not a piece of legislation. As a choice racism represents the darkest and most unintelligent portion of the human spirit. It is often identified by its self appointed watchers with hate speech, tag names and snobbery...but is far too often overlooked when it is masked with education, victimization and activism.

For what its worth I have been accused of racism regularly here because I oppose the activism of Al Sharpton and I am offended by his complete lack of public speaking ability save for his bombastic, pulpit thundering nonsense.

I don't buy Martin Luther King's message or his phony holiday because I never saw any evidence of universal reach in his efforts.

I do however note the distinct lack of so called "white" civil rights leaders...always did find that curious.

My favorite orator and scholar of all time is Frederick Douglass. I have made that clear on many occasions here. Now there is a man who had it all together and was so far ahead of his time that he should have been declared a saint. You will note that his message bears no resemblance to the rabble rousing of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton and never focuses on the interests of just one people.

Personally I am too dark to be considered white but too light to be considered black. So I stand somewhere in the middle I guess by other people's standards. I will tell you one thing though. I have a large circle of friends that represent most of the imagined racial categories here on earth and I never think twice about the melatonin count in their skin...that is just a silly, stupid waste of time.

Busing was, is and always will be a band-aid on the sorest of human wounds. It accomplishes nothing of any real value save the mis-impression that something is being done to integrate on a mechanical scale what can only be healed and integrated on a spiritual scale.

If I were asked to define racism in terms of an event I think the most flagrant example I have seen recently was Hillary Clinton's speech to the Black Leaders caucus. She really put on the southern drawl for them ( as if they were too stupid to know it ) and that my friend made me want to puke on her.

This is the most hateful and inaccurate statement in the entire thread. It implies that their is no hope of an integrated, just society, and that MLK was wrong.
