72 years old

That's just too old to take on such a stressful position. Mr. McCain's young wife may have been able to turn around a flailing campaign with her booze money, but thats not enough to turn around a country that has been devastated by the same policies that McCain now endorses. To be fair McCain voted against these policies before he supported them.

John McCain served this nation admirably during the Vietnam war, I even supported him 8 years ago. But the John McCain of 8 years ago no longer exists. In his ambitious desire for president McCain has sold out his principles in order to appease the worst of the GOP, the GOP that has almost destroyed this once great nation.

While the press wrings its hands over a lapel pin perhaps the rest of America can ponder what happened to the old McCain and how he seems to have flip flopped on nearly every issue he once claimed to hold dear. Lets talk about stress levels on an old heart. And lets talk about the horrendous condition of our nations finances that is a direct result of GOP policies.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. McCain or anybody who gets the Republican nomination is the front man of a political horror show.

I wonder if McCain will be called to account for his flip-flopping on these issues as Kerry was called to account for his flip-flops?

But given the MSM, it's probably just an idle question.

No big deal...

So what if he dies in office, McCain will have a strong VP who will take over and then win the presidency in 2012 and 2016.

This country will be safe from Democrats for at least the next 12 years.

Nick I've wondered the same thing, for me a lot will depend on whom he decides to have as his running mate as there is the distinct possibility that that person could very well have to assume the job if the worst case scenario were to (God forbid ) transpire.

Quite frankly I'm not very comfortable with any of the candidates right now.

Another problem with being so old
by gmat
he's now a historical artifact of the bygone American postwar hegemonic period.

It's time to get back to being a constitutional republic, and he has the stench of empire all over him.
'the stench of empire' Ooooo! Good!

Original? Can I use it? mmmmmmm stench of empire. neocon BO.
"ooh-ooh, that smell"

A very insightful comment NickD.

Yes, McCain is too old. This current campaign is an ego trip for this neo-con warmonger. If he does win the White House he will not be in charge of one single agenda. He will be a parrot for the neo-cons and the AEIs and the Heritage Foundations and Hudson Institutes, the list of these right-wing imperialist think tanks is long -- and who can leave out Fascist Fox TV -- (they already run the country), these radical, right-wing Republican institutions will still be in the background, still running the country, by proxy, much as they are now. McCain is just too stupid and weak to have much influence on the fascists, he will be at their mercy, they ARE the Republican party now.

At this point he is nothing more than a "personality" milking (with the help of Fox (who films him through filtered lenses I think) his "war hero" status. Well, hundreds of thousands of Americans served their country heroically in the Vietnam War. For instance, our beautiful, just graduated from college, neighbor, was a pilot in that other war of Imperial Aggression and he was shot down and KILLED! McCain ((milks)) his prisoner of war experience much too much for my taste.

McCain is just a what is now, a run-of-the mill Republican, retrograde war mongering hack. only out to convince voters. with the aggressive help of Fascist Fox, to continue voting against their best interests and well being, who if he wins will keep this nation on the war path against the whole world till the end of time.

So much for the end of the Cold War peace dividend, that dream is in tatters. The greedy, murderous Republicans and their military industrial complex have seen to that?

I don't disagree with you. She is my idol for post-80 living, though.

One hopes that when you finally

reach that age someone will kindly, and with the best of intentions, declare you worthy only of the trash heap.

Ironically I do believe that there are signs of incipient senility creeping into John McCain's public appearances in his speech patterns and responses. It just goes to show that once in a while even NickD can be correct, if for all the wrong reasons.
