Maybe Prudie's reply was too subtle for Bridezilla? If she's self-centered enough to be that stressed about what her FMIL is wearing (jealous, maybe?), she might just take the irony as permission to pitch a fit.

If you want the wedding to be just about you, then leave everyone else out of it. My wife and I eloped, made our own outfits, and had a blast with it. No one had to match our color choices or anything.

Regarding the Officer's Fiance:

That's how people make conversation? "Your fiance arrested my [insert relative here]." And? The best response to something that ignorant is definitely humor. I'm nicer than Prudie though...my reply might have been..."Yes, and the streets were safer for a while because of it."
