Lung cancer is the prototype
by Ann Newton
How can anyone publish an article about preventable causes of cancer without mentioning the intimacy between cigarette smoke exposure and the most common malignancy in men and women--lung cancer? If there is one intervention which can save lives, reduce the incidence of lung disease, heart disease and deadly malignancies, it has to be smoking cessation. The reality is not sexy and unfortunately infused with prevailing concerns about "self-inflicted" risks; however, recent genetic data suggests that a molecular connection between smoking addiction and lung malignancy may exist. So, we can stop blaming the victim and start preventing the disease.

It's not possible to become addicted to something you never try. I blame the victim. Everyone *knows* that smoking is addictive.
