Problem in America Too
by kcothery

Hitchens is right to bring up the fact that doctors are not immune to religious fervor, something that the mainstream media is just discovering despite all the historical examples.

What also needs to be brought up is that doctors in America are not immune to this either. In just one example, especially in small towns, doctors are refusing to prescribe birth control because of their religious beliefs, and pharmacists are refusing to fill prescriptions.

It's not as horrible is trying to kill hundreds with a car bomb, but the underlying problem is the same - doctors are harming others because of their beliefs.

There is hardly a connection, as you readily admit, to the two transgressions. While denying care is appalling, the client has the last laugh as they exercise their right to go to a different physician or pharmacist.

What is our recourse from Islamofacist hatred that drives someone to kill, and kill unmitigatedly? I find it hardly as egregious as not dispensing Triphasil.

Antiquated thinking is one thing. Catagorical hatred is quite another.

We must aske ourselves how many Doctors are created as a result of Religion. It is also important to ask what the world would be without the some of the common themes amongst religions such as thou shall not kill, steal, etc... In some ways religion is anti-anarchy on a global level. Do not judge the actions or beliefs of all by th eperversion of a few.
