Finally - the recognition that this twinkly, grandfatherly man expedited the most recent chapter in what is perhaps the most pernicious machine for child rape in history - the rest of the folderol about this pope's spiritual leadership is nothing more than outstanding marketing, an area where the Church truly does demonstrate innovation and leadership. I wonder how this man has ever slept, knowing what he has personally perpetuated in the quest to preserve Holy Mother Church. He considers it holy - to me, it's simply heinous.
In my experience, cafeteria Catholics are typical entitled Americans- the folks who participate in the "nice Church" with clean schools, Brownie troops and the New Mass. They seem collectively unburdened by spiritual or intellectual rigor. In my experience, they enjoy a religious fast-food experience where they order what they want off the menu without a moment's consideration of the human or social cost of maintaining the Church's financial and political might. Denying women the full benefit of 21st century medicine? God made him to do it. Pandering to other medievally minded clerics? God made him do it. Elevating and honoring Cardinal Law? God made him do it.
Unless God loves dead women, child molesters and men simply too impaired to integrate new information, God is getting really bad press.
