By your logic, we would not need to hold anyone accountable for their actions on earth because they will be held accountable in the eternal afterlife (which you says lasts a million billion years, I thought it was longer). Since many people believe there is no after-life and unpunished criminals can re-offend, let's conclude that we should hold people accountable in this life.
