With all of the problems we have in society the U.S. would rather spend money on defense. We are actually in a more unstable position now with the surge and other military manuevers then we were in the first two years of the war. We have enbolden the terrorist. Anyone who wants to kill Amercians can simply cross the porus borders surrounding Bagdad, and be a part of the bloodletting that is going on in Irag. The general can talk all he likes about the sucess in Iraq but in the end if the armed forces can't lead Bagdad then we have lost.
