squirells in a snipe bag
by margaretnelsonwest

here in the south you just got taken on a snipe hunt if you think anyone eats squirell the tree rat has no meat no fat aand cannot have one drumstick or hot wing on the whole blame thing. a snipe hunt is where you go on a hunt for snipes with a bunch of good ole boys and hold onto a burlap bag. it is always at night always near a swamp and you are left alone to snipe hunting night. frogs are another snipe and also lost of other stuff no real human being ever touch to eat such as skunk ,possum etc

as for what did we eat on a farm really waercress, parsley tomatoes cucmbers potatoes

corn bread grits biscuits home made bread and always a big thick t bone steak.and a virginia ham and eggs and red eyed gravey all the veggies fresh from the garden corn , greens kale and of course black eyed peas and butter beans my favorite no one was fat or no fat cats to steal our farms as there are new it is hot hard all day work but the real caswh crop was of course watermelons and mush melons nd these seeds are very scarce but are still around

aplples pears no peaches too cold in the south grapes a few and good ole mountian dew grape juice or wine

peace

Boiled squirells are good eatin'
by Cooltruth

Of course if you are going to fry them, you will need to add fat to the pan as their meat is very lean. My grandfather used to bring home squirrels. Grandma would boil them after they were dressed out & made ready for cooking. He would just take along his knife & skin them where he shot them. They had more meat than the quail he also brought home. Never went hungry with the garden supplemented by the game...

:o)
