The whole point of the JASN editorial wasn't that one doesn't need 8 glasses of water a day - rather, it was that there is no clear published clinical trials showing that drinking more water helps. However, as the study amply points out, " we concede there is also no clear evidence of lack of benefit." Thus, i would not say this editorial "debunked" the myth that we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day - if anything, it said that there may be such effects (such as in increasing satiety, increasing kidney clearance), and the whole subject needs to be studied more.

I do get that the point of the article was more about the historical underpinnings of the specific number 8 glasses, which was interesting...

Also, what about bladder and urinary tract health? Doesn't use it or lose it still apply?
