Accepting His Fate by Chadwick Matlin

This article from the beginning struck me as arrogant, unintelligent and basically the same sort of pop opinion that has polluted and muddied the body politic to the point where the only viable candidates are the ones who make big promises on the stump that no one in the presidential seat can ever make good on without congress behind him.
John Edwards lost because he refused to play that game; he refused to offer pie in the sky answers to the country's problems and greatest challenges. He focused on helping the very poorest and not on being endorsed by Oprah or participating in a skit on Saturday night live.
We have turned the office of presidency into the scapegoat of all that is good and bad in politics and government. We no longer ask our citizens to name their congressman or senators, but rather to heap all insults and tributes of the work of both of those groups at the feet of who-ever is occupying the oval office.
This is wrong, and is the reason why we will get what we deserve come election time. There are no longer noble well intentioned men who run for this office, but rather people who hope to get by on flashy promises that will never be kept.
John Edwards was not popular because he refused to do this. He refused to allow this election to become what it has since his departure: nothing more than two kids running for student body president; making big promises on the stump, promises that once elected will amount to nothing more than presidential veto over the color of napkins for homecoming.
I really love this country and I hate that come November we will get exactly what we deserve.
