incredible to drink 8 glasses a day

Had no idea that 8 glasses a day was some kind of health suggestion and not surprised that this is at long last

nailed down as superstitious nonsense.

Next idea in need of getting wiped out is the nonsense

that one loses weight in exercising.

Exercise may be fine for your heart and looks.

But exercise in itself does not make you lose weight.

While we're exposing myths, what about the myth that "the bottled-water industry" had some kind of board-room conspiracy to "explode" the market for bottled water. Markets don't work that way. Sure, many companies have made great profits from selling good old H-2-O but the idea that the the industry somehow "made it happen" is pure myth. Certainly the referenced article (Bottlemania) provides no suggestion of such control over unsuspecting customers.

Oh, please - you either don't work in Marketing (where you'd know that's EXACTLY what happened) or you DO - and are trying to keep your evil little secrets from being exposed.

Focus groups were gathered and probed for what would make them drink more water. What would make water seem "sexy". What price would they pay for the "convenience". Would just any water do, or by making it seem like regular tap water came from a "Pure Mountain Source" make it more exciting to buy?

Then came FLAVORED water! A whole new market to conquer! Additives! Caffeine! Vitamins! Pretty artwork on the bottles! Nipple tips so you can drink without having to constantly unscrew!

You don't think those things were heavily studied? That we got to where we are today because someone blindly decided they'd start bottling water?

EVERY product goes through a marketing cycle and YOU - the target audience - are manipulated into thinking you NEED that product. But hey - if it makes you feel better to live in denial - you go right ahead, Sparky.
