Thick hide or tin ear?
by zebra

It has not been my impression that Hillary Clinton remains in the race because she has a thick skin. On the contrary, I have never seen a candidate play the victim card so often. Maybe that's because it works for her, but still, a person who feels as victimized as she does, without seeming to recognize how many advantages she has also enjoyed, does not strike me as someone you'd describe as having a thick skin.

In any event, the conditions you suggest will lead her to quit are not likely to come to pass in her case. Her supporters are staunch, the press will not desert her (because she's a celebrity), and she will not run out of money (because she's very rich and can always loan her campaign more money).

So I guess it is fair to conclude that you're expecting it will be Obama who will ultimately quit. And if so, should we all admire Hillary's "staying power"? If the democratic party (and the media) allow themselves to be held hostage to Hillary's "thick skin" to the point where it is Obama who succumbs to the war of attrition.... well... I just can't imagine an outcome more absurd.

Obama will not quit. His lead is sound, and he is just playing out the clock. Hillary is hoping to either steal the nomination in some slimy back-room deal, or torpedo Obama's chances in November, so she can run again in 2012. She is ruthless.
