Suzie, but not Johnny?
by ryan.haggerty
I don't understand how Mr. Saletan can support elective abortions, except when they are used for sex selection. An embryo has the right to be Suzie when her parents wanted a Johnny, but an embryo doesn't have the right to be either Suzie or Johnny when her or his parents just wanted to have sex.

Even if you have no moral qualms about abortion or sex selection, you can disapprove of sex selection because of its impact on society. If there are significantly more babies born of one gender than of the other, this can cause problems down the road when people grow up and begin having relationships/getting married.
