Prius Speed
by ghanima
I drive a Prius, and I have to say, I'm frequently zooming past everyone in situations that normally require horsepower: entrance ramps to highways, passing, getting back up to speed after a red light, etc. I giggle at the SUVs in my rearview, so I find it kind of infuriating when I hear the (to my ears, anyway) urban myth of the Prius' tonka-toy-ness. I work as a photographer, and I travel to 30-40 different homes/week, so people are always asking about my car. The two sad questions I always hear are: "Where do you plug it in?", and "Does it drive as fast as a regular car?" Seems to be a massive failure of marketing on Toyota's part.

I, too, drive a Prius. I don't get the Plug-It-In question much, though it's been suggested by some that it's not quite "up to speed" compared to a gas-only-conventional vehicle.

I've had it at 100 mph, though that's not my typical driving style.
