Even taking into account the contested 2000 election, a majority of the American voting public ( most, we know, sit them out) elected Mr. Bush and his cabal. In the mid-term 2006 elections, there was some measure of change, but not a tidal wave of rejection of the Bush doctrine on torture and war.
