Even better with the LCHF way of life
by kerstin

It is my opinion that Americans are a poisoning themselves to death because of the chemicals in what they eat.

I have lost my overweight finally thanks to the LCHF way of life which means plenty of butter, fat cheese, fullfat cream eggs and yoghurts, plenty of meat no calory counting

and a minimum of carbohydrates. No bread and a careful pick of vegetables only those grown above earth such as various kinds of cabbage

(cauliflower mashed with butter makes delicious alternative to mashed potatoes) broccoli, endives cucumber, salad green, mushrooms. Berries instead of fruit such as raspberries and blueberries. You will find your body tells you how much to eat when it is fed with animal fat (dairy products, fat fish and meat with fat)

which is what we have eaten through the centuries until another message came in the 50-s from the American food industry lined up with politicians and too many doctors adapting without caring about whether this was true or not.

Indeed one cannot lose weight in exercising.

Exercise may be good for many things but has nothing to do with weight loss.

LCHF means Low in Carbohydrates High in Fat.

I have never felt better, my asthma is no longer bothering me and skin is wonderful. This is an unbeatable diet for those wishing to lose weight and those with diabetes 2. No wishes for sugar let alone wine.

I live in France where gastronomy is built on cream butter cheese of extraordinary quality let alone eggs meat poultry and fish.

As for chocolate one finds here bars containing 100 percent cocoa meaning no sugar and because quality is superb a daily heaven.y

Your credibility just flew out the window with one fell swoop. You clearly know nothing about either weight loss or exercise. Try reading a book on the subject.

Well my dear you are absolutely dead wrong and I am right. One does not lose weight in exercising and it may be an uncomfortable message too those in the exercise business.

There is scientific evidence kept away from the big public. You bet when so much money is at stake.

I actually agree with kerstin, to a certain extent. Of course, it depends upon the body, but if you're doing anerobic exercise (weight lifting) you aren't burning fat. You're building muscle. For instance, I can do 3 sets of 50 crunches a day but you would never know it... because there's a nice layer of fat covering my strong abs.

If you're doing purely aerobic exercise, chances are you will lose weight, but only if you keep your heart rate up high enough long enough to actually get to the fat. It really depends upon being smart about exercising. Would you agree kerstin?

Calories in, calories out. Weightlifting itself doesn't "burn fat" -- but muscles use far more energy (calories are units of measurement of stored energy) during exercise than fat does. So weightlifting does contribute to calorie burn. You may not lose "weight" in the sense that you will be adding muscle weight (muscles are denser hence weigh more than fat) and bone density, but you will be creating a physiological environment where more calories will be used during the course of everyday activity.

Any kind of exercise could be termed "aerobic" since you must breathe, and the body needs, oxygen in order to complete it. If all you do is the kinds of exercises we call "aerobic" you would still be building some muscle mass, and you don't really have to keep up your heart rate at a particular level to "get to the fat." All you have to do is use more calories than you take in, and you can do that as efficiently with a leisurely walk to work as you can by sweating to the oldies. It'll take more time to walk it off, of course, because your body is using less muscle at a slower rate.

It is extraordinary the way I find the attitude towards the complicated structure of the body regarded as if it were some machine for calories in and out.

Where do hormones fit into this?

I am sure exercise is beneficial for better circulation but that is all.

However the high fat mode of life that has made me lose 100 pounds does not include doing any sort of exercise. Counting calories and the idea of burning them simply does not have a place in this life style. Weight is regulated via the way the body has always done this: via its own hormones.Weight loss is all a matter of that grand hormone so terribly handled, your insuline.

Can we please have one example of a skinny tribal group living on a high fat diet and getting very little exercise? Thought not. Completely absurd.

Buy some National Geographics. Look at all the completely ripped fit people living off in some jungle or other. Are they eating a diet even vaguely similar to what the author suggests? No way. Bugs, some root vegetables, some meat and fish, nuts, grains...and lots of exercise. Many different foods have been staples of a diet around the world and have not lead to obesity. Corn, rice, yams, wheat, all sorts of foods. Where are the drawings of the obese people, where are the photos even from the 50's showing lots of obese people? The difference is that they were a lot more physically active and ate less sugar.

My mom is 65, people her age were the last to grow up without TV, running around and playing outside instead. Research is now showing that these people are healthier than the kids born ten years later when examined at the same ages. They were healthier at 55 than those now 55 are. The effects of not getting exercise are long term and lasting.

And here is the things about it, people never "exercised" before, they just lived their lives. They played in active ways. They walked because cars did not exist and towns were small. Doing the laundry and ironing was a lot of hard physical labor. Cooking food and chopping wood and on and on, there was a lot of physical activity to be done.

I have kept fit not just with diet but by not owning a car for most of my life. I bicycle instead. I am not "exercising," I am just getting where I need to go. Play some soccer, some bike polo, whatever sport comes to hand and call it a day. I have never been in a gym. I have not had a PE class. And people are always shocked to find out how old I am.

The idea that physical activity is not significant for weight and that we "should" eat mostly high fat foods is complete garbage, no rational argument or empirical evidence can possibly support it.

Difficult to lose lbs thru excercise alone
by LeoB
because we use so much energy just existing (1200+ kcalories just maintaining body temperature for example) that the extra we burn up through moderate exercise is almost insignificant. Couple that with the exaggerated sense of entitlement most people get from a little exercise an a lot of people who take up exersice gain weight (i.e. I can eat this 1000 kcalorie piece of chocolate cake because I went for a 20 minute walk which really only burned up 200 additional calories over watching TV). It is really instructive to get a computer (wrist computer, pedometer, bike computer, treadmill computer) that estimates calories burned based on weight and time or distance. Then you will see how little food a little exercise equates to (walk half an hour, eat 1/3rd of a cookie to break even - of course better yet walk 1/2 hour and eat no cookie). On the other hand, nothing beats exercising and dieting combined.
