Which is worse racism or sexism?
by slysly77
I agree with the basic premise that asking which is worse is asking the wrong question. We may as well as debate if the Holocaust was worse than slavery. Its just as meaningless...and divisive. In fact its merely academic masturbation because the operative question is how to move beyond both biases. As a pretty progressive black man what's most frustrating is that the feminists attempting to answer the question--like Steinem--don't even approach it in a rigorous fashion. In not a single one of these arguments suggesting that women have it harder than blacks have I seen a feminist explain the simple fact that since Reconstruction some 64 women have served as Senator or Governor whereas just 7 blacks have. I once asked that question of feminist journalist & rather than explain she just said, women politicians still have it tougher! The problem with indulging in this academic masturbation & then ignoring the vast disparity in the numbers is that feminists suggest to minorities (including minority women) that ethnicity hardly matters. The groups should be trying to make common cause & not seeking or exploiting artificial boundaries.

Is everyone forgetting the numers? Women are actually the majority of the people in the US- some 51%, so 64 elected officials is not that many. Blacks are 12% (of which half would be women), not even the largest minority group anymore- that honor goes to Hispanics!
