Nice to see so much copy devoted to the Pirates

I live in Pittsburgh. When I was a kid, I would hide a radio under my pillow when the Bucs were playing on the West coast so I could listen to Bob Prince and Nellie King do the play-by-play. Roberto Clemente and the basket catch. Chicken-on-the-hill with Willie Stargell. Two World Series championships and I attended a game in each one.
Now, if you wanted to drive the Pirates out of town, I would pay my own money to rent the truck. Good riddance.
A few years ago, when the Pirates had their little temper tantrum and insisted on a new stadium, we had a referendum on the ballot. Do you want to pay an extra 1/2 percent in sales tax to fund a new stadium. It was voted down by a 3-to-1 margin.
Everyone I know and every commentator I've heard understood that to say "we don't want to spend tax dollars for a baseball-only stadium."
Our politicians then found some other tax dollars they could scrape together and spent them to build a baseball-only stadium.
Bah.
