THE DELUSION OF RACE IS DEAD-GET OVER IT
by TaoistPhD
The whole thing is absurd. However it is a reflection of the consciousness of the American people. Still stuck in an old paradigm while all genetic research on both the Y chromosome and Mitochondrial DNA shows that there is only one race of humans-Human beings.

because science is such a intuitive matrix for understanding the world. you don't need schooling or guidance. because you know that when an object is rotating around a central focus, that it's acceleration is toward that focus. that's intuitive, right?

stop it. next step racial science, and guess what it usually tends towards? oh yeah that's right, it tends to agree with racism. like that's an excuse.

**********biology degree right here.

I am referring to genetic research not frog dissection

o yeah because you speak for science, and that can't be racist at all. do you think im a highschooler dissecting a mudskipper?

I'm not that dumb, and talk to me like i'm an adult. stop using your identification as a trump card. I can argue with you about literature, science, math.......stop speaking to me like a child. that's your problem. explicit your opinion or stay silent. it's not like i can't argue about evolution if I don't know what cAmp is.

First of all, I am not "speaking" to anyone. I don't know your age and I don't care to discuss any of those topics as they are not relative to this discussion.

haha. back up. speak ur mind. i can't hit you in the face when i'm sitting in an armchair. you want to go into the racist/evolutionist debate then bring it. maybe you want to talk about IQ and Africa, who knows. speak ur mind. if you don't then ur just searching the internet for arguments you think you can win. if you don't state what you want to state, there's no point in discussion. sorry for being mean (seriously i have been and have seen types like you).

peace.

Actually, the evidence of mitochondrial DNA, etc, establishes that all humans are members of the same species (homo sapiens sapiens), not members of the same race. With respect to taxonomy, ‘race’ identifies members of actually or potentially interbreeding groups within a species (i.e., members of different existing subspecies).

It's a minor point, but the devil as always is in the details.

Yes, I agree with this. However the term of "Race" as used in reference to the human species is an artificial construct. For example in Brazil and other Latin American countries "Race" is a description of how one appears. If you "appear" to be "White" then you are. This is true even if within your family one of your parents may not "appear" white. Many Brazilians with blonde hair and blue eyes still refer to themselves as "mulatto" due to the extensive "Racial" mixing in that country. So how do we know that the Brazilian model on the cover is truly "White". How do we know anyone is "White" unless their DNA does not show any markers for any other group. That is why this whole discussion is based totally on one's perceptions.

The term Kingdom, phylum, class, order, etc.

...are equally artificial, but like 'race' they're useful intellectual constructs which allow us to better organize and manipulate complex ideas. It isn't surprising that different cultures would use a commonterm to convey different meanings, or that in the absence of the ready ability to discriminate on the basis of genotype they would apply the term on the basis of phenotype.

And of course we often can't ever know whether or not an individual in a photograph is 'truly' white, but why would one feel a need to?

I agree with this also-so it is all a matter of perception because the perception that the woman on the cover is "whte" and the man is "black" is the underlying basis of this discussion.
