Cheapest, Best Popcorn
by ihatethenewlogin

You can do this at home! Buy a 50 pound bag of popcorn from a Club (Sam's, BJ's, etc) for $12.50. Buy a package of heavy duty 9 inch paper plates. You already have oil, and you have an OXO salad spinner.

Put 3 tablespoons of oil ojn the plate and slosh around. Add just under one cup (either 3/4 or 2/3 if you insist on a measurement). Then put the basket (white, with holes, not the clear plastic bowl) inverted over the plate, unsert in mocrowave and figure out how long you need. Some microwaves take longer-- mine takes 2 min and 35 seconds. Makes a lot of popcorn fast, tastes good, and it's what, almost free compared to the prebagged, pre-additived microwave stuff.

Note: the edges of the paper plate will not be hot when done, but the *bottom* of the plate will be *very* hot, so use due caution.

This is, however, safe enough that I let even my youngest kid do it.

The Stir Crazy popcorn popper pops great popcorn. The person who wrote this article didn't pop it right, either the wrong amount of oil or popcorn. Also, cleaning the butter tray before the flip? What's that about? It has a lid, just put the lid on it, and clean later (the bowl can be cleaned in the dishwasher). If you flip too late, the popcorn will burn. I have used this machine for almost 20 years and have seldom ever had a problem, and all were user error.

Since I've used this machine, many of my good friends have purchased one and several of their friends have too. It's a great popper. Not to put the others down, but each has there own quality. The air popper has its own taste, which is great but not the same as the theater popcorn many people want. The stove top one is great, but has a performance similar to a stir crazy, plus work.

As far as popcorn poppers go, for price and quality: Stir Crazy.
