I Love All Things Disney
by African American family

When I first saw the articles I was very eager to see if Disney would or could transform you. As an African American women I agree that we are not there in numbers and I sometimes wonder, is it done on purpose to keep us who are poor out but because I love all things Disney. I will have to say no.

I was with you at first, because I took my two children to Epcot and The Magic Kingdom in 1984. I was grouchy and tired. We took two trains and a bus from St. Louis to Georgia where I met up with my husband and we drove the rest of the way to Florida. The train ride was a nightmare, and the bus ride was horrible. The car ride was long and hot. If I sound bad my husband was worst. He was just like you, only stingy. He made us go and see vacation property all the time we were there, so we could get in Disney for free. I brought $1500 dollars to spend and we still were broke. He grumbled and said it was a waste of money. But, from the moment I went through the front gates I was in heaven. The magical kingdom and then the Epcot center was a dream come true.

The dream was more for me than my kids. Memories of "Hey There Hi there Ho there" came flooding back and the mousecateers singing and dancing brought tears to my eyes. It was more than worth, it it was glorious.

And, believe it or not to this day when my husband talks about the Disney experience he sounds like he was me, he tells everyone of the glorious time we had.

I didn't believe him at first till I saw him act like he understood the magic when we took our Grandson to Disneyland in California in 1996.

So, this is why I read the articles hoping you would see and feel it too, because if my husband could catch it then I thought so could you. So if you catch yourself ten or twenty years from now, telling a different tale about your Disney experience, just smile and remember, a little black woman told you it might just happen to you.
