You call it a needle
by jeqal

I'm trying to think of analogies similar to the one's Obama gave....

Yes, my mentor may have machetted that group of villagers but just like this needle I'm not going to toss it, I'm going to thread it, and that machete we're going to use it to mow grass, and if we need it again then so be it.

I say that grass can be green and sometimes it is dry as dusk, but other times it is green and I am proud of it being green, because it's grass but if it's brown then we know that it's brown, because when it doesn't rain it happens and only I know it has happened because I was raised near a field and that field grew and when it was growing I noticed the thing with the rain.

Now some of you are saying denounce the man who I've known since after I've known other men who are have been, will be like well I have been when I grew up in Indonesia, no Africa, I'm from Kenya, no make that Hawaii and you may be angry about that but he's my mentor, much like my grandma who raised me and took care of me, and times were hard well hard for me because of my color but not for my grandma because well of her color, but it's not about that, why did you bring that up? my grandma who is white she had a needle and taught me this poem.... cross my heart and hope to die and stick a needle in my eye! and although she taught me that poem, I still love her, she lives here those of you who want to let her know how I felt feel free to call her cell phone is...but my spiritual mentor! what's a few machetes with all of that...the grass is still growing and it's brown now but when it rains it will be green.....and after all I have another grandma....I know that all of you will be mad about her.

That is a little closer to his speech I think. I may have made it much more coherent but ....

I call it over the top

I hadn't heard that Rev. Jeremiah Wright was a mass murderer. Being a scary black preacher-man wasn't enough?

missed where I put the pastor in there actually, it was trying to come up with a parallel of grandma afraid of two men skulking near her apartment window at night and being labeled a racist in comparison with Rev Wright NOT being labeled what he is, and I think that a man with a large congregation who is being filmed, and most likely being aired on local cable, and watched on cable. who um..rants about Hilary's ability to get a taxi....and um...let's see a heck of a lot of other sounds like a KKK rally stuff. with a topping off of "God damn America"

This and Obama's refusal to place his hand over his heart during the star-spangled banner (for religious reasons? he is a member of this church so it would be this church that would be telling the congregation not to put hands over hearts), the same church that says that 9/11 was god's retribution against whites. Instead of addressing this truly bigoted, ethnophobic, racist, crazy weirdoness stuff his church of (20? years) preaches. He brings up his racist white grandma because she was afraid of a few men skulking (his words) at her window at night. Now seems to me, he never went out to see himself, so maybe he was afraid too.

On another note. Mr. Obama has said that he did not understand how to press a button which is why his vote while he was in the Senate was inaccurately given to the public. This is the same person who believes he is the only one able to understand the complexities of.....

let's see so far he believes that men who skulk and women who fear them...the woman who is afraid is at fault.

preacher's who rant are awarded with obedience.

and um....he can understand the complexities of just about everything but little buttons that say aye, nay, and abstain (green, red, yellow) .

but you are right about the analogy, machete is not as strong a contrast as the real thing.

I think that the parallel presented was mild in comparison with the actual comparison.

@ jeqal:

"the same church that says that 9/11 was god's retribution against whites."

Both Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson agreed that 9/11 was God's retribution against America. So do you denounce their words as well?

Obama 08!

Incorrect.

The quote was: ". . . but a woman who confessed that she is sometimes afraid of black men she passed on the street."

<> I didnt see the word "skulk" in there, but then, considering your determination to invent a variety of other facts, it doesnt surprise me that you misquote the words of his speech.

<>
<>A person who "fears" someone they pass on the street, based on their colour, has a problem. If you want to go on insisting that the problem is with the black men, and not with the person who fears them when they merely "pass her on the street", then there isnt much point in discussing the issue further

Wasn't it already common knowledge that whatever Falwell and Robertson say should be both denounced and rejected?

Re: Official denouncement
by jeqal

I've been denouncing fundamentalists of all stripes for years. anyone who says 9/11 is gods retribution to America is denounced!

mmmms

Official statement:

I am officially denouncing anyone who says 9/11 is God's retribution. I am doubly denouncing anyone who says that 9/11 is God's retribution to white america.

satisfied?

quoted from Washington Monthly COPYRIGHT 2007 Washington Monthly Company
May 1, 2007
Volume 39; Issue 5 "For example, Sailer relates an anecdote from the book in which Obama's white grandmother wants a ride to work because she had been threatened by a black panhandler while waiting for the bus the day before. Obama "is outraged--at his grandparents," according to Sailer, who offers the story as further evidence of Obama's anger toward his white family. But in the book the situation is far more nuanced than Sailer lets on. In fact, it's Obama's grandfather who's outraged that his wife was scared because, in her words, "the fella was black." Obama describes these words as "a fist in my stomach." But he tells his grandfather that although his grandmother's attitude bothered him, "Toot's fears would ... pass and we should give her a ride in the meantime." Putting his hand on his grandfather's shoulder, he says it's all right, that he understands."

About 2 years ago I remember reading or hearing a speech about his white grandma being frightened, looking at articles of the time I noted that there was a sub article about a 101 year old grandma that had been frightened or something by black youths. Hence the connection. I have been looking for the quote, but I read a heck of a lot.....so

But this book excerpt by Obama is kinda far-fetched actually, people tend to be raised by people and whatever is said is blown off, to have so much racial insecurity that a statement made by a grandparent has this reaction is a bit of a fantasy I think.

I'm not sure what the demographics are in hawaii, but sometimes that needs to be taken into account as well. A grandma passing a black panhandler in New York on the way to the bus is a bit different from a grandma passing a black panhandler in Iowa on the way to the bus. And also it could have been the way this guy approached her. Women tend to be protective of their kids also, so her identity to her grandson could have made the threat seem more real, that a black man had come to take her grandson.

People are complex. For Obama to take an authentic moment in his grandma's life to bandy about for his own means, just tells me how indulged and how very very selfish he is.

Before the Obamanites get out the pom poms and begin spouting Obama for Jesus routines. Obama endorses global welfare and global taxation and he gives less than 1% to charity (25% of that 1% was to his Wrightest church)
