Obama.

I watched this speech today and it brought tears to my eyes. This man is a Godsend, we are fools not to elect a person of this character and ability. This reminds me of the fall of the former Soviet Union. At the end, they kept picking older Politburo types who seem to keep dying one after another. Then, Gorbachev was chosen and the rest is history. Obama could become our Gorby in terms of race and quality of political discourse. Hillary and McCain are the old guard. If we pick one of them over Obama, we are really saying that we do not want to move beyond the past, we want to wallow in all that we lived through these last 50 years. We will say to our children, you fix it, we give up. If we elect him, we make a statement that we can start realizing what we all thought was possible NOW, beginning today. The cynicism that has overcome the baby boomers is crippling our nation and our ability to deal with the issues. We need rejuvenation, we need cleansing, we need honesty, we need to remind everyone that first we are Americans.

This man is a giant already and he is just a young man. It will say much about us if we destroy him because we cannot give up our anger, hate and divisiveness.

Yeah, I liked it too.

Would have been easy for him to toss Wright under the bus. Well, I guess that's not quite right is it? As he just proved, it's not easy for him to throw anybody under the bus. That's not what his campaign's about.

When he said "I can't disown him any more than I can disown the black community" I think he showed more balls than any politician in recent memory. How it plays in Peoria is anyone's guess.

Swan songs are always poignant. I think this will be ultimately fatal. Not in the primary, but in the general. Seriously damaging.

I agree with what you said about him being a stand-up guy. Under the circs, it's the best thing he can do. I don't think it'll be enough to sweep this under the rug.

That speech
by ducadmo

is not only a defining moment for his campaign, but for all of America as well. It stands as a milestone in its frankness and acknowledgement of who we were, are, and want to be.

Regardless of whether he becomes the President or not, he is redefining American politics in a way no one else can. There is no one left in the Boomer generation who can move this nation forward. I think we've already proven that.

If Obama will be Gorbachev, then who's Reagan?
by Inkberrow
Vlad Putin? Osama bin Laden? The U.N. Secretary General? Whomever it is---maybe a composite rendering---the conscience of the world will speak through her, crying "Mr. Obama, tear down that nation-state". The Judeo-Christian/capitalist pathology must be eradicated for the safety of the world. If the analogy holds, Obama will go on to lucrative and adulatory personal appearances abroad, and be detested in his own country.
I am stunned.

This guy is truly amazing. His ability to articulate issues and express himself with passion and honesty is unbelievably rare at the national level. In fact, I cannot remember when a person at his level was this direct and honest with so much at stake. If we choose not to pick Obama, he will remain as the leader we will eventually pick, its just a matter of time. I am most disappointed in my generation, we have given up while pursuing personal wealth. This guy will change America overnight by his sheer presence. Hillary had to have watched this and said to herself, "I can't beat him, he is too good". McCain is like the last days of a star athlete getting his ass kicked by the young star. McCain will get creamed by Obama in the general election.

As a cynical misanthrope, I'm not easily moved by political speeches. This was a good one (for anyone who actually listened to it for what). Seems like a hundred years ago when I was an idealistic 20 year old, but Obama's found just a tiny remnant of that wide-eyed kid that I'd given up on long ago.

The Guy hit an ace.....

I am still very wary of the circumstances though...the speech was so good It has to be at least a year old and a hundred times rehearsed. But so far I don't see any way for anyone to take this moment away from him...

This was a good one.

Obama is a lying racist pig who aligns himself with America hating terrorist supporters.

He is a man whose time has come....and gone. His campaign is as dead as fried chicken.

Not telling you how to smear somebody

but if I'm you, in the general I'm not giving that guy excuses to make any more speeches like that one.

That was one damn fine moment.

I don't mind taking his moment away from him. He reversed himself of course and now claims he didn't really fall asleep in church. He actually listened to Wright's sermons and has no intention of separating himself from him.

I remember when Jimmy Carter had to make allowances for his brother Billy. Carter admitted that Billy had some problems but that he loved him anyway because he was his brother. And all Billy ever did was get drunk and piss on things in public

I hope to see Obama get that same opportunity when he is asked about his brother (and he will be).....the Muslim terrorist who works for the destruction of the country of which Obama wants to be president.

Whatever you say Jack.

I love it when the side that runs on hate and divisiveness proves themselves worthy of their accusers. Keep it up, sounds like a winning campaign strategy for the right, in fact, I hope McCain says exactly that on the campaign trail, should be a real hoot.
yeah rhetoric is a dime a line
