If you didn't want people to comment on your boobs

Then why the hell did you get a boob job?

As I understand it, the standard chick BS answer to such questions is always "I got them for myself, and not for other people!"

Pardon me while I roll my eyes and snort.

I've also noticed the standard chick that gets a boob job wears clothes that show them off.

Yes, it's an empowerment thing. Like those fishnet stockings and stiletto heels.

Lucky people are staring too hard at your super-wide bootay to ever notice your breasts, eh Blondie ?

I'm still scratching my head over that one! Why would she want to spend $$$$$$ and not have anyone notice? Puleeeze! She probably just doesn't like when old men, unattractive men and other girls say something about her going under the knife and getting stuffed with silicone.

I'd lay money that you're absolutely right Elle. If the guys were young, rich, and Brad Pitt handsome it wouldn't be so bad to blush, giggle and say "You noticed?"

yep, nothing more then a way to get attention, she just gets offended when her needing attention boobs draws the attention from those she didn't want attention from.

if it bothers her so much, she should go back & have the boob job reversed, which I doubt she will. Or wear less revealing clothes.

As a naturally large-chested woman who wishes her set was smaller (clothes never fit right, back pain, and yes, the staring) I don't know why any woman in her right mind would subject herself to this surgery in the first place (you DO realize they'll start sagging in a few years, right?), much less COMPLAIN when people notice. Infuriating!

I know. I've never seen the desire. I'm average-sized 34B and thats good to my proportions (petite, slim/athletic build.) Anything bigger and I'd look awkwardly top heavy. I look bigger in some bras than others, and on my "bigger" days I don't feel more empowered than my smaller days!

There comments, and there are comments. Something like, "I like what you've done" or "You really look good" (not from a male at work, since he'd be afraid of the consequences) is one thing. "Hey, hey, check out those tits!" is another.
hey hey check out those tits...
by deduction
if you are going to get offended by things like that... well, life's just too short is all. and getting them augmented is basically asking people to "check out those tits". it's one thing if the change is subtle. (like Kelly Rowland of Destiny's child.. i think i saw something saying she only went up like one cup size). but if it's that subtle, most people wouldn't notice. nah.. i'm with Elle on this one.

The letter-writer didn't say anything to indicate why she had gotten a boob job so I'm venturing out on a limb --- but what about if she had gotten a boob job because she had previously had breast cancer? Had poor self-image that was affecting her mental health? Does that make a difference to how we judge a person's decisions about plastic surgery? (and if so, should it?)

And why are we assuming that this woman had something really drastic done? This could be no more than the effect of a gel-padded bra -- which I'm sure no one here has EVER worn, right... Or what happens to boobs when you get PMSy/pregnant/just a little pudgy...

I'm not exactly pro-boob jobs but still, people can be awfully quick to judge.

If she had work done because of breast cancer, I'm sure the LW would have said that.

Because it says so in her letter:

"I recently had breast-enhancement surgery, and there is a noticeable difference."
