Obama Endorsement Contains Foolish Statement re Marriage
by selowitch
Prof. Doug Kmiec foolishly writes:
As a Republican, I strongly wish to preserve traditional marriage not as a suspicion or denigration of my homosexual friends but as recognition of the significance of the procreative family as a building block of society.
Who is to say that "non-procreative" families (e.g., those built by adoption, headed by infertile heterosexual couples, or which feature homosexual couples) are not building blocks of society, or are to a lesser degree than "procreative" families? Does "recognizing the significance" of procreative families necessitate the marginalization or exclusion of nonprocreative families from public life and from the basic rights afforded to other citizens. No matter how right-wingers try to spin it, there are no good or rational arguments against denying citizens the same rights as other because somebody disapproves of homosexuality. A person's sexuality is in the heart and the mind, two areas the government has no business meddling in. I just love it when hypocrites like this guy go on and on about personal liberty and government staying out of our lives --- until of course someone does something they don't approve of. Then it's suddenly intervene, intervene, intervene, meddle, meddle, meddle. Do they not realize how totally offensive and intellectually bankrupt this double standard is?
