Demetri:I read your comments about who is responsible for the separation of Kosovo. I am not excusing some of the Serb policies about Kosovo. I also do not agree that outside countries decide how to divide countries into pieces.
My question to you is: how did you become a self proclaimed expert on the affairs of other states and of Kosovo in particular?
How would you like if some foreign entities decided that the population in California is Hispanic and therefore California should become independent of the US? Shouldn't the Americans have a say on that?
I'll tell you what, chuckles: as soon as whitey uses U.S. Army regulars to start shelling open-air markets in East L.A., you come on over and set that up, ok?
Hitchens' article was great, and addressed precisely the "questions" your asinine post reasks. If you don't like the answer, well, that's just too bad. The Serbs may have had a historical claim, however tenuous, to the territory (as do, I'm sure, dozens of other ethnicities), and perhaps if they'd left it at that and carried on with a reasonable light touch (a reasonably light touch in this instance NOT consisting of a state-implemented and backed policy of civilian murder on a grand scale, at a bear minimum), then I would hazard to guess that Kosovo would still be a part of the rump "Yugoslav" republic, whatever that may mean, even today. They did not, however, and so they forfeit any such expectation.
Perhaps you're a Serb, Demetri, and that's why this is mystifying to you, but in the West, we do in practice subscribe to a very small and select set of human rights, chief amongst those being the right to live. You know, to draw breath and continue to exist, without another forcing sharpened steel implements of various types or sizes into your body and causing organ failure and death. That belief has trickled down, if you will, into a number of facets of modern life here. Beat your wife? Not only can she divorce you, you can get arrested. Smack your young children around too much? Here comes DHS to seize them from you. Enjoy your time in Chino with a 160kg cell-mate of dubious disposition. Like setting cats on fire, or inducing dogs to fight? You can lose not only your good name, but tens of millions of dollars and your freedom, believe me. Crazy, I know. But thems the breaks. Considering the United States, exclusive of the rest of NATO (who's members of course tend to share a certain distaste for indiscriminate slaughter), spends more on its military than the rest of the world combined, I suggest you get used to not having the final say over your country's affairs, if having the final say means engaging in the wholesale rape and murder of innocents. It's a damn shame about satellite tv and the internet, eh, Demetri? If only they weren't around, perhaps you guys would have had enough time to finish those mongoloids off, right?
All you genocide-apologists can burn in hell. Have a nice day.
